Suikoden 1

Level 99 Trick Guide and How to Perform

Suikoden 1 - Level 99 Trick Guide
There is no Level 99 Trick in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster, but there is a Level 96 trick that you can perform. Read on to find out how to pull it off, what characters can do it, and where to do it!

How to Perform Level 99 Trick

Jump From Level 36 to 96 in One Battle

Level 96 Trick

Requires Level 36 Character and Fortune Rune

Suikoden 1 - Kirkis Level 96

To perform the first part of the Level 99 trick, the target character must be at Level 36 with at least 900/1000 EXP.

The target character must have a Fortune Rune equipped, so characters with no free rune slot like Pahn or Valeria are not eligible.

The Fortune Rune is a critical piece, and the trick cannot be performed without it.

How to Get a Fortune Rune

Defeat Specific Enemies in Moravia

You must then put the target character in a party with the Hero and bring them to the first room in Moravia Castle, just past the entrance.

After saving with the nearby guard, the party must then find a random battle with the following formation of enemies:

  1. Elite Soldier x2
  2. Hell Hound x3
  3. Whip Master x1

Use the Hero's Level 3 Soul Eater rune spell Hell to instantly defeat the enemies.

You can also defeat them normally, but this risks the target character being killed and receiving no EXP.

Due to the way EXP gain works in Suikoden 1, the rewarded EXP for the target character will raise them from Level 36 to Level 96 instantly!

Level Up to Level 99 Normally

After boosting the target character to Level 96, add them to a full party and defeat enemies to level them up to Level 99.

Choose high-level locations like Shasarazade, Neclord's Castle, or Gregminster Castle, and keep the Fortune Rune equipped to increase their level gains.

High-level Areas in Part 8

What is the Level 99 Trick?

Exploits EXP Gain Mechanics

Farm EXP in the Great Forest

The main part of the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster Level 99 trick exploits the way EXP gain works in Suikoden 1. In the game, characters gain more EXP when their level is below the area level. This way, characters can quickly reach the recommended level for an area in just a few battles.

However, because a character equipping the Fortune Rune will gain double EXP from a battle, fighting in an area with very large level gap with the Fortune Rune will give a character far more EXP than is needed to reach the area level.

Thus, target characters can gain a massive boost in EXP when fighting high level enemies while shielded by friends.

The Level 99 Trick is Not Very Efficient

While the trick makes it easy to level up a character far beyond what is needed to clear the game, because of its strict requirements, it isn't very efficient for all characters.

Consider using normal methods for bringing characters up to par like leveling in high-level areas instead.
