Water Rune Pieces Are the Best Rune Pieces in the Game
Water Rune Pieces are the best rune pieces to get in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster. They restore 5 HP per turn per piece, and since you can attach up to 9 rune pieces of the same type to a weapon, you can potentially regenerate 45 HP per turn.
Also, unlike other elemental rune pieces, there's a virtually unlimited supply of Water Rune Pieces. You can farm them by beating Killer Slimes at Mt. Tigerwolf.

Elemental Rune Pieces Are Attached to Weapons for Special Buffs
Rune pieces with elements such as Water and Earth are activated by having a blacksmith attach them to your characters' weapons. Be careful as once you've attached a rune piece to a weapon, it cannot be removed and transferred to another weapon.

Stack Buffs by Having Multiple Rune Pieces on a Single Weapon
Up to 9 pieces of the same kind of rune piece can be attached to a single weapon. For example, if you attach 3 Water rune pieces to one weapon, the character holding that weapon will be healed at a rate of 15 HP per turn.
Changing a Weapon's Elemental Rune Piece Overwrites the Current One
Once you've attached an elemental rune piece to a weapon, attaching a different kind of elemental rune piece will overwrite it. For example, if you attached a Water rune piece to your weapon, then attached an Earth rune piece to it, the Earth rune piece will overwrite the Water rune piece.
Stat Rune Pieces Raise a Character's Stats Permanently
Meanwhile, stat rune pieces like the Luck rune piece, Power rune piece, and Skill rune piece increase a character's stats when used as an item. Use these rune pieces to strengthen your characters.

Runes Are Equipped by Characters, Rune Pieces Are Attached to Weapons
Runes are attached by Rune Masters in Rune Shops to characters, giving those characters access to powerful spells and abilities. Some of these spells and abilities include offensive and healing spells, and they can only be used a limited number of times during battle.
Meanwhile, Rune Pieces are attached to weapons and provide specific stat buffs. Up to nine rune pieces of the same type can be attached to a weapon.
