List of Contents
Soul Hackers 2 is related to both the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, so the combat is generally similar to those titles, but with its own new quirks for Soul Hackers 2.
Sabbaths are much like All-Out Attacks from newer Persona titles.
Unlike SMTV or Persona 5, exploiting an elemental weakness in Soul Hackers 2 doesn't grant you an extra turn, but instead builds up what's called a Stack which deals extra damage through a Sabbath at the end of your turn.
After your first trip to the Soul Matrix and going through Arrow's first floor, pay a visit to the COMP Smith Tatara and she'll teach you about Commander Skills. Commander Skills can do things like:
Conversion | Allows you to switch your equipped Demon mid-battle. |
---|---|
Stack Optimization | Gives a temporary boost to the number of Demons you've got Stacked. |
To upgrade your COMP with Commander Skills, you'll need a Totem Memory and any other necessary upgrade materials. You can get your first Totem Memory by defeating the Take-Minakata in Soul Matrix Arrow 1F.
Jack Frost joining the party after a fruitful negotiation!
Demons in Soul Hackers 2 can be recruited by first speaking to one of your Demons on Demon Recon duty. They can introduce you available demons in whichever area you are in, and then from there you must negotiate with the Demon. If the Demon Negotiation is successful, you'll form a contract with that Demon and they will join your party.
Since the Skills you use in battle don't belong to the character, but to the Demon that character has equipped, recruiting Demons is one of the main ways to improve your party's pool of skills.
Victor will be in charge of fusing your Demons!
To unlock Demon Fusion you must first progress far enough into the story to reach Cirque du Goumaden. This will be available right after the second boss in the game found in Arrow's Soul Matrix.
Before fusing Demons, it's almost always a good idea to register your current team of Demons in the Compendium so you can buy back your current party with their existing skills later.
To fuse a new Demon, you must first be high enough level to control it. You can only fuse demons that are of your current level or below, so it's always a good idea level up so you have access to stronger Demons and their skills.
Demons outside of combat will still receive some EXP, but to a lesser degree than those in combat.

Much like Shin Megami Tensei and Persona titles, Soul Hackers 2 also has its fair share of dungeon crawling and exploration.
Numerous map icons and tutorials will be thrown at you at the start of the game, and it can get pretty overwhelming. This list covers all the map icons you will encounter as you progress through countless maps and areas.
Soul Level is basically a point system that measures Ringo's connection to her party members. To raise a character's Soul Level, you will need to choose dialogue options that they favor. Note that you can see which character will receive Soul Level points at the upper right corner of the screen when prompted to choose a dialogue option.
Difficulty | Explanation |
---|---|
Easy | Unlimited Continues |
Normal | Limited Continues via items |
Hard | No Continues at all |
Having the option to Continue the game after dying is dependent on the difficulty you're playing on. Should you find yourself having a hard time with battles, you can always level grind, or simply just set your difficulty to Easy to have access to unlimited Continues.
Do note that there are certain Soul Matrix bosses that may have specific conditions that will not allow you to use any Continues regardless of difficulty and will simply send you back to the title screen upon defeat.
