Gilthunder's main team is designed to support and empower Drake in his Greatsword form, enhancing his damage output through Bursts and Cooldown Reduction.

It offers substantial damage buffs timed around Burst abilities, making it effective due to its strong initial impact.

This basic strategy involves using Gilthunder and Dreyfus in his Rapier form to inflict status ailments and debuffs, then using Drake to inflict heavy damage. Elaine, in her Staff form, is there to amplify Burst Efficiency for more damage.

Best Weapon Type for Gilthunder

Long Sword is Recommended

Gilthunder benefits the most from his Long Sword weapon type, as it makes it easier to trigger Shock, and because he and his teammates can benefit from his quickswap playstyle.

This gives you a secondary addition to DPS, along with lowering the Lightning RES of opponents, making him a good Burst Support to have in Lightning teams.

Gilthunder on Long Sword

Long Sword Focuses on Lightning Burst Shocks

Gilthunder's main method of damage in Long Sword mode is via Lightning Bursts, inflicting Shock to enemies to increase damage and burst efficiency.

Increases Damage When Hitting Shocked Enemies

Striking Shocked enemies with your Normal Skill reduces the cooldown of your Special Attack, incentivizing shocking your opponents and taking advantage of it, as that directly translates to more DPS.

This, along with the damage increments that the Shock status already provides, allows Gilthunder to rack up damage quickly even within his short On-Field window.

Ultimate Move Decreases Enemy Lightning RES

Gilthunder's Long Sword Ultimate Move reduces enemy Lightning RES for 5 seconds after the cast, allowing Lightning-based teams to capitalize on this.

Most notably, this Ultimate Move is used just before swapping to another Lightning DPS to deal increased front-loaded damage.

Gilthunder on Sword and Shield

Sword and Shield Playstyle Focuses on Defense and Crowd Control

Gilthunder's Sword and Shield playstyle focuses on his Ultimate Move, which Binds and crowd controls the enemies while keeping the team topped up with Shields, punishing enemies that break through it by lowering their RES.

Use this when you want to keep enemies grouped up, unable to take action, and keep your units safe as they go through their combo.

Useful to Tank in Multiplayer

Gilthunder’s Special Skill allows him to hold a guarding stance while taunting the enemies, but renders him unable to attack. However, it compensates for this by allowing him to tank through damage, as it reduces incoming damage by 40%.

This becomes especially useful in Multiplayer, as it allows other players to focus on damage and forces all opponents to target you instead.

Gilthunder on Lance

Lance Combo Inflicts Paralysis

The Lance's main gimmick is to Shock all enemies in the area with your Normal Skill, then follow up with your Special Skill to paralyze them, stunning and lowering their Lightning RES.

Lance bridges the gap between Gilthunder's Burst playstyle and Support playstyle by offering a third option as a debuffer, making this particularly useful for enemies that need to be weakened.
