The Game8 TRIBE NINE Team has ended coverage as of June 30, 2025. Information on certain pages may no longer be up-to-date. TRIBE NINE is also scheduled to end service on November 27, 2025. Thank you for your continued support!

Tentacles is a boss in Chapter 3 of TRIBE NINE. Read on to see how to beat Tentacles, its location, the best team and characters to use against it, its attack patterns, as well as tips on how to defeat Tentacles.

Tentacles Counter Team Comp

Hinagiku as Main Attacker (Melee/Close-Range)

Recommended Characters
Player (Main Attacker) Long-Range Attacker Close-Range Attacker
Hinagiku AkibaHinagiku Akiba Tsuki IrohaTsuki Iroha Yo KuronakaYo Kuronaka

This team comp is suitable for fights where players are recommended to keep breaking Tentacles' posture and cancel its attack moves.

Players can maximize and focus on damage output using attack characters such as Hinagiku, Tsuki, and Yo. Hinagiku and Yo share similar close-range fighting styles, while Tsuki operates as a long-range attacker who can exploit openings from the longer, outer ranges.

It's recommended for the player to use Hinagiku as she is able to easily counter many of Tentacles' attacks. And her counterattack, Secondary Skill, and Strategy Skill deal damage and can break enemies' posture.

She's a DPS with high attack ability and great break ability. Moreover, Hinagiku is highly effective against all of the bosses that appear in Neo Chiyoda City (Chapter 3). So if you have Hinagiku by then, prioritze leveling her up and use her as your main character.

Tsuki as Main Attacker (Long-Range)

Recommended Characters
Player (Long-Range Attacker) Support Close-Range Attacker
Tsuki IrohaTsuki Iroha Koishi KohinataKoishi Kohinata Yo KuronakaYo Kuronaka

It's recommended for players to use Tsuki as the main character in this team comp, with Koishi as support providing healing, and Yo as close-range attacker. This is a safe team comp to use especially with the healing recovery provided by Koishi.

Players can take advantage of Tsuki's long-range attacks, as well as the distance from Tentacles, and always aim to break it posture. Moreover, always aim to unleash Tsuki's Ultimate Skill as it deals heavy damage.

Depending on the character's level and HP gauge, Koishi's recovery ability may not be of much use because one powerful attack from Tentacles can kill the entire party.

In that case, you can also use guest characters such as Q, or Hinagiku if she's available, to help the team consistently attack and break Tentacles' posture.

How to Beat Tentacles

Always Break Tentacles' Posture

Recommended Characters with High Break Ability
Yo KuronakaYo Kuronaka Kazuki AoyamaKazuki Aoyama

Tentacles' attacks are generally easy to dodge and avoid, except for its area-of-effect (AoE) laser attack. So it's recommended to repeatedly break Tentacles' posture and follow up with more attacks to defeat it. Characters with excellent break abilities, such as Yo or Kazuki, are highly recommended to use in your party.

In some cases, you'll be able to beat Tentacles before it even gets to unleashing the AoE laser attack. If your attackers are able to dish out enough damage, try to kill Tentacles as early as possible, before it starts using that move.

Use Hinagiku If Possible

Prioritize If Available
Hinagiku AkibaHinagiku Akiba

Hinagiku is able to easily counter many of Tentacles' attacks, allowing her to deal damage while breaking its posture with her attacks.

When fighting the Tentacles, you can aim to counter and break its posture with close-range attacks, interrupting its area attacks. As she has both high attack ability and break ability, prioritize leveling up and using Hinagiku if you have her in your roster.

Position Yourself Next or Adjacent to Tentacles to Counterattack

Since Tentacles' attacks launch object with no physical form, such as lasers, it is more difficult to counter them. However, most attacks can be countered if you are near Tentacles. So, position your controlled character next to or adjacent to Tentacles, and then time your counterattack with its attack windup animation.

To completely avoid powerful AoE attacks, it is effective to break during the attack windup motion and interrupt it, so be sure to actively aim for a counterattack and break its posture.

Use Long-Range Attackers

Long-Range Attackers

Another recommended strategy is to use long-range attackers and use ranged skills that can break its posture.

Moreover, its powerful AoE attacks can be avoided by moving to the very edge of the battlefield. Characters with long-range attacks such as Tsuruko, Tsuki, and Yutaka are recommended for this strategy as they can attack while covering long distances safely.

Consider Lowering the Difficulty If You Can't Win

TRIBE NINE

If all your characters are defeated and you get a game over, you'll be given the option to "Retry at Lower Difficulty." At a lower difficulty, your characters get significantly boosted, mainly in HP and damage reduction. If you’re stuck, consider lowering the difficulty to enjoy the story.

Tentacles Abilities and Attack Patterns

How to Beat Tentacles

Charge Attack

In this attack, Tentacles will line up in a horizontal formation, charge its attack for about 2 seconds, and then fire laser beams towards the player. You can counter/parry this attack if you are close to Tentacles. Simply move in front of Tentacles to aim for a counter.

It's highly recommended to use Hinagiku, as she can easily counter this Charge Attack using her Primary Attack if you get close to Tentacles.

Orb Release

Tentacles releases orbs after it performs one swinging rotation of its body. The orbs don't deal significant damage, but they cannot be countered.

However, the swinging rotation motion that Tentacles does is consider a physical attack and can be countered. So try to unleash your counterattack when the motion is being performed.

Laser Attack

Once Tentacles' health has depleted to a certain level, Tentacles will spread out across the map and begin firing lasers in various directions. This laser attack covers a large area of the battlefield.

It's similar to the Charge Attack, but the timing required for the counterattack is harder to determine. It's recommended to keep an eye on Tentacles' red attack indicators on the ground to know which direction to dodge the lasers.

If you're using Hinagiku, you can get close to one of the Tentacles and charge up your primary attack to land a successful counter and cancel the laser attack.

AoE Laser Attack

The "WARNING" sign appears on the screen when Tentacles performs this attack.

Similar to the Laser Attack, Tentacles will spread out across the map and fire lasers. However in this attack, it will then unleash a area-of-effect (AoE) attack immediately after. Depending on your characters' levels and HP gauges, a single hit from the AoE Laser Attack can cause enough damage to kill your entire team.

It's recommended to run towards the edge of the battlefield to avoid this attack altogether. Another recommended strategy is to reduce Tentacles' HP to its least possible amount, and break Tentacles' posture to interrupt the attack.

Characters other than the controlled character (2nd & 3rd members) will rarely be able to avoid this attack. And so, you should be on the offense as much as possible, and aim to break Tentacles' posture.
