Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Inner Focus Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Choice Band ImageChoice Band

The Ability chosen for this build is Inner Focus. This prevents Entei from getting flinched, and more importantly, also prevents it from getting Intimidated.

The item chosen for this build is a Choice Band. This is used to make its physical moves hit a lot harder, especially its Normal Tera Extreme Speeds. Alternatively, it could use an Assault Vest as a more defensive option.

Moves Breakdown

Extreme Speed Sacred Fire
Stomping Tantrum Trailblaze

Extreme Speed, when combined with Choice Band and a Normal Tera, lets Entei get quick knockouts on Pokemon that aren't immune to it or don't resist it.

Sacred Fire is its best Fire-type STAB move that has a 50% chance of burning the opponent.

Stomping Tantrum is its main coverage move that lets it deal with Rock-types that resist both of its other moves.

Trailblaze is used to threaten Ground, Rock, and Water-types that threaten it with super-effective STAB attacks.

Normal is the best Tera Type for this build because it boosts the damage of Extreme Speed, making Entei a very threatening attacker.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are placed in Entei's HP and Attack to make it as bulky as possible while still being able to hit hard. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Sp. Def to help round out its bulk.

An Adamant nature is preferred to help maximize Entei's damage output.

Other Viable Moves

Flare Blitz Does more damage than Sacred Fire, but Entei will take recoil damage.

Ability and Held Item

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Entei Image
Ability Held Item
Inner Focus Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Assault Vest ImageAssault Vest

Inner Focus prevents Entei from flinching from moves like Fake Out, while also giving it immunity to Intimidate which is very common in Doubles.

Assault Vest increases Entei's Special Defense by 50% but prevents it from using Status moves, increasing its special bulk and allowing it to stay against weak or unboosted special attacks.

Moves Breakdown

Sacred Fire Extreme Speed
Snarl Bulldoze

Sacred Fire is Entei's main STAB move and has a 50% chance to burn the target, allowing it to threaten opposing physical sweepers.

Extreme Speed gets STAB once Entei terastallizes into a Normal-type and boasts +2 Priority, allowing it to hit first against Mach Punch and Aqua Jet users.

Snarl gives it an option against Psy Spam teams or other Special Attackers, lowering the effectiveness of their Special Attacks.

Bulldoze is a great option for triggering a partner's Weakness Policy and reducing the opposing side's Speed.

EV Spread and Nature

Full 252 EV investment in Attack and Speed with a Jolly Nature allows Entei to hit as hard and as fast as possible, with the remaining 4 EVs placed on HP to round off its bulk.

Jolly is the chosen Nature for this build so that it can outpace other base 100 Speed Pokemon who prefer to go Adamant.

Other Viable Moves

Stone Edge This gives Entei coverage against Flying and opposing Fire-types. It's relatively low accuracy also gives Entei a chance to increase the damage of its Stomping Tantrum.
Trailblaze A weaker alternative to Stone Edge that allows Entei to hit Water-types for super effective damage while also increasing its Speed by 1 stage.

How to Use Entei Effectively

Use Entei to Deal Massive Damage to the Opponent

While Entei may have a high HP stat, its defenses are rather lacking. Don't try to greed and keep Entei alive, and instead try to get as much damage done as possible so that your allies have an easier time securing a win.

How to Build a Team with Entei

For Singles, Entei is best used as a revenge killer to get quick counter KOs with Extreme Speed.

Sample Singles Teams

Offensive Lead Physical Attacker Special Attacker
Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) ImageOgerpon (Cornerstone Mask) Entei ImageEntei Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane

Cornerstone Ogerpon is a great lead for Entei since its Grass STAB can deal with Entei's Ground, Rock, and Water weaknesses. It also has the option to use Swords Dance if it is against a more passive lead.

Once Ogerpon is KO'd, Entei can then come in to get knockouts and deal good damage with Normal Tera Extreme Speeds, allowing for Flutter Mane to come in an secure a strong endgame.

Sample Doubles Team

Physical Attacker Physical Attacker
Entei ImageEntei Solgaleo ImageSolgaleo
Physical Attacker Physical Attacker
Dragonite ImageDragonite Chien-Pao ImageChien-Pao

Entei makes for a great partner for Solgaleo in Regulation G, being a Pokemon that is immune to Fake Out flinch, and can trigger Solgaleo's Weakness Policy with Bulldoze.

Dragonite and Chien-Pao make for a powerful back end to this team, cleaning up low HP Pokemon late into a game.
