Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Poison Puppeteer Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Leftovers ImageLeftovers

Pecharunt's only ability is Poison Puppeteer. This confuses the opponent any time Pecharunt poisons them with one of its moves.

The item chosen for this build are Leftovers. This lets Pecharunt passively recover a portion of its lost health.

Alternatively, it could use Black Sludge if it doesn't plan on Terastallizing or if it will keep its Poison typing.

Moves Breakdown

Toxic Mean Look
Substitute Recover

Toxic is the key move for this build since it will badly poison the target, making it harder for them to stay alive in battle.

Mean Look is used to trap the opponent in battle, forcing them to take more damage from being badly poisoned.

Substitute adds an extra layer of safety, preventing Pecharunt from taking any unnecessary damage or getting hit by opposing status moves.

Recover is the second most important move in this build because it heals Pecharunt for half of its max HP, helping it stick around longer in battle.

Fairy is the best Tera Type for this build because it removes Pecharunt's weaknesses while also being one of the best defensive types in the game. Pecharunt's base typing also heavily resists Fairy's Poison weakness.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are placed in Pecharunt's HP and Sp. Def to make it as specially bulky as possible. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Defense to help round out its bulk.

A Calm nature is preferred to minimize the damage Pecharunt takes from special attacks since its Defense is already ridiculously high.

Alternatively, it could use a Bold nature with the Defense and Sp. Def EVs swapped so that it is an amazing physical wall.

Other Viable Moves

Malignant Chain Used over Toxic so that Pecharunt has an attacking move, but it only has a 50% chance to poison the target.
Hex
or
Venoshock
Used over Mean Look so that Pecharunt has an attacking move that synergizes with Toxic.
Protect An extra way to stall out turns so that Pecharunt can heal more and do more poison damage.

Poison Puppeteer Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Sitrus Berry ImageSitrus Berry

Pecharunt's only ability is Poison Puppeteer. This confuses the opponent any time Pecharunt poisons them with one of its moves.

The item chosen for this build is a Sitrus Berry. This lets Pecharunt recover 25% of its max HP whenever it falls below half health.

Moves Breakdown

Malignant Chain Shadow Ball
Parting Shot Foul Play

Malignant Chain is its signature Poison-type STAB move that has a high base power and a 50% chance to badly poison the opponent. This synergizes well with its ability since it will also confuse the target.

Shadow Ball is its best Ghost-type move due to its consistency and 20% chance to lower the opponent's Sp. Def by one stage.

Parting Shot supports its teammates by reducing the opponent's offensive stats by one stage, making it safer for them when they switch in.

Foul Play is used as a coverage move to counter opponents with a high attack stat, especially since Pecharunt is lacking in the offensive department.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are placed in Pecharunt's HP and Sp. Atk to make it as bulky as possible while still being able to hit hard. The extra 4 EVs are put into Sp. Def to help round out its bulk.

A Modest nature is preferred to maximize Pecharunt's offensive output.

Other Viable Moves

Hex Synergizes well with Pecharunt's desire to poison the opponent, although it does significantly less damage than Shadow Ball if the target isn't poisoned.
Recover Gives a way for Pecharunt to heal itself so it's not reliant on its held item for recovery.
Nasty Plot Helps Pecharunt offset its relatively low Sp. Atk stat.

Poison Puppeteer Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Focus Sash ImageFocus Sash

Pechaurn's Signature Ability is Poison Puppeteer which will confuse opponents poisoned with Pecharunt's attacks. Note that this does not trigger if the opponent gets poisoned by sources that are not Pecharunt.

This Ability synergizes with its Signature Move, Malignant Chain, which is a strictly better Sludge Bomb with a higher base power.

A Focus Sash is chosen for this build as it can improve Pecharunt's survivability against common meta threats without necessarily having to commit Tera.

Moves Breakdown

Malignant Chain Shadow Ball
Nasty Plot Protect

Malignant Charm is Pecharunt's Signature Move which has a chance of badly poisoning opponents. This has a natural synergy with its Signature Ability, Poison Puppeteer, which can confuse poisoned foes.

Shadow Ball is its secondary STAB option which can hit most types for neutral.

Nasty Plot is great for passive turns and can greatly increase Pecharunt's damage output.

Lastly, Protect can help Pecharunt on turns where it is in danger of getting double targeted.

EV Spread and Nature

Full Special Attack and Speed EV investment ensures that Pecharunt hits as hard and as fast as possible, while the remaining 4 EVs are placed in HP to slightly boost its bulk.

Other Viable Moves

Recover Recover works handily with Pecharunt's decent defenses, giving it a way to heal HP while in battle.
Parting Shot Parting Shot also works in tandem with Pecharunt's defenses, helping its team debuff the opposing side's offense.
Venoshock Venoshock deals enhanced damage on a poisoned opponent.
Poison Gas Poison Gas gives Pecharunt an option that poisons both opposing Pokemon. This has natural synergy with Pecharunt's Poison Puppeteer Ability, which can confuse poisoned opponents.

How to Use Pecharunt Effectively

Catch a Pecharunt with 0 Attack IVs

Pokemon SV - 0 IV Pecharunt Banner

Since Pecharunt is a special attacking Ghost-type Pokemon, it can take a lot of unnecessary damage from a super-effective Foul Play if it has 31 Attack IVs and isn't defensively Terastallized.

When catching a Pecharunt, make sure to get one that has 0 Attack IVs to maximize its stat spread and so it doesn't lose nearly half of its HP from a single Foul Play.

0 Attack IV Pecharunt Reroll Guide

Position Against Pokemon It Can Tank

Some of Pecharunt's main features are that it has an amazing Defense stat and a good amount of resistances and immunities.

Make sure to position it against physical attackers that it can tank hits from since it is still susceptible to opposing special attackers and Pokemon that threaten it with super-effective damage.

Give Pecharunt Ample Support

Pecharunt would appreciate teammates that can help it set up Nasty Plot or its other non-damaging moves. Teammates with Fake Out are good to have, as well as teammates that can cover types that Pecharunt cannot damage.

How to Build a Team with Pecharunt

Have Teammates That Are Strong Against Ground and Steel-Types

Pecharunt needs teammates that can deal with Ground and Steel-types that can hard counter it.

Sample Singles Team

Flexible Lead Physical Attacker Special Attacker
Pecharunt ImagePecharunt Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style ImageUrshifu Rapid-Strike Style Bloodmoon Ursaluna ImageBloodmoon Ursaluna

Pecharunt can be flexibly used as a defensive lead or a pivot to scout out the opponent's Pokemon.

Meanwhile, Urshifu and Bloodmoon Ursaluna are saved in the back to counter the Ground and Steel-types that Pecharunt has difficulty dealing with.

These two Pokemon can also be built to be bulky so that Pecharunt's poison ticks get more value and do more damage.

Sample Doubles Team

Support / Physical Attacker Special Attacker
Incineroar ImageIncineroar Pecharunt ImagePecharunt
Special Attacker Physical Attacker
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane Rillaboom ImageRillaboom

Incineroar is a solid partner for Pecharunt, who is able to reduce the effectiveness of usually physically offensive Ground-types. It is also able to threaten Steel-types, who Pecharunt may have trouble dealing damage to. Additionally, Incineroar can help Pecharunt set up Nasty Plot with Fake Out, and give it even more staying power with Parting Shot.

Rillaboom can threaten Ground-types who may want to face off against Pecharunt and can always outpace with Priority Grassy Glide.

Flutter Mane is a solid Pokemon to have in the endgame, especially against Chien-Pao, Dragonite, and Entei Cores who may want to abuse Extreme Speed.

Counters for Pecharunt

Wall or Outspeed Pecharunt

Pecharunt will easily be outsped by faster Pokemon because of its average 88 Base Speed. Pokemon like Landorus, Excadrill or Iron Crown can outspeed and win face-offs against Pecharunt.
