You first have to complete the quest, A Monstorus Riddle, in Darj Snowfields. The quest involves solving a riddle for the Channeler, who will grant you access to performing the Rite of Channeling.
You can perform the Rite of Channeling by looking out for the Stable Paw icon on the map and talking to the Felyne wearing a straw hat. The Stable Paw can always be found in bases like Hakum Village, Oasum, Gildegaran, etc.
Genes determine what kind of skill, attack moves, and element your Monstie has. They are also the reason what makes each Monstie unique. Each Gene can be passed down by performing the Rite of Channeling.
Steps on How to Channel Genes |
---|
Firstly, choose the Monstie you want to inherit a Gene. This should be the Monstie you want to receive a certain gene or simply this is the Monstie you are building on.
Secondly, choose the Monstie you want to channel a Gene from. Always be careful when choosing the second Monstie because they will disappear after you perform the Rite of Channeling.
Note that when choosing the second Monstie, you cannot select the Monsties in your party, the ones you sent on an expedition, and the ones who are on your Network Battle option.
If the Monstie is in your party, however, you must first remove them so they can be selected as the second Monstie.
Selecting a Gene Slot | Channeling Gene Skill |
---|---|
Lastly, select which Gene you want to channel from the gene slot at the left side of your screen and that gene must be aligned to the same gene slot on the right side of your screen. You can only channel genes to empty slots, but you can also overwrite current ones.
Channeling Genes will make your Monsties learn new abilities and skills and even change their element to your liking, making them stronger and more versatile. You can check the stats of the genes at the bottom of your screen.
Note that when overwriting genes, the gene you replaced will disappear forever, as will the Monstie you inherited it from, so always be careful.
If by any chance you don't want to channel genes from your other Monsties, you can use Ritual Items. These are items you can get out in the field and you can use them to fill the empty gene slots of your Monsties.
Simply choose the Ritual Items option in the second screen, select which Monstie you want, and select which Ritual Item you want your Monstie to inherit. You can check the stats of each item at the bottom left of your screen.

Bingo Genes are bonus genes that will only apply if you have filled three aligned genes in the gene slots, no matter which way, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
The effects of the Bingo Genes will vary from the different combinations of the aligned genes.
The Team is still investigating the information about how to unlock gene slots. Please come back later for more updates!
