How to Breed and Get Blue Roses

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) - How to Breed Blue Roses

Roses are red, but they can be blue. If you were my villager, I'd share them with you. But until then, learn how to get your own Blue Roses with our step-by-step guide!

How to Breed Blue Roses

Steps Directions
1 Grow White, Red, and Yellow Roses from seeds
2 Cross-pollinate roses to get Orange and Purple Roses
3 Cross-pollinate the purple and orange roses to make Red Hybrid Roses
4 Cross-pollinate Red Hybrid Roses roses to make Blue Roses

1. Grow Roses from Seeds

ACNH - Different colored roses with seed packets layed out beside them

The first thing you'll need is a few of the most basic roses: white, red, and yellow. You can buy seeds for these flowers in the cabinet at Nook's Cranny or from Leif when he visits!

If you have natural roses growing on the cliff of your island, you can also use those!

2. Make Purple and Orange Roses

Once your flowers have fully grown, separate the white roses from the red and yellow roses. Use a watering can each flower group separately until you have you find a specific flower growing.

You'll be looking for Purple Roses from the white ones and Orange Roses from the red and yellow ones.

3. Make a Red Hybrid Rose

ACNH - purple and orange roses beside each other and the resulting red hybrid rose on the right

Just like before, plant the orange and purple flowers next to each other, and water them everyday. Once you see a new red grow, set it aside. Collect two of these roses and move on to the next step.

These red roses are Red Hybrid Roses, and are crucial to making Blue Roses! You won't be able to breed Blue Roses with normal Red Roses from seeds.

4. Make a Blue Rose

ACNH - Two red hybrid roses beside each other and the resulting blue rose on the right

Once you've completed Steps 1-3, you should have everything you need to get yourself a Blue Rose! All that's left to do is to water both Red Hybrid Flowers everyday until you get a Blue Rose.

Trade Online

If you're struggling to get a specific flower type or hybrid color, trading with others online might be the quickest way to get them!

How to Clone Blue Roses

ACNH - A Blue Rose Garden with a black rose garden peeking from below

The easiest way to get Blue Roses for sure is to clone the ones you have.

To clone flowers, plant a single rose somewhere where they aren't touching any other flowers. Water them everyday and eventually, it'll spawn another Blue Rose!

The information here is technically correct, but there’s one thing to keep in mind when it comes to ACNH flowers: Your island’s native flower gets some additional “fast track” routes for breeding into the rare hybrids. Unfortunately, if roses are not the flower you had all over the plane when you first created your island, then breeding your own blue roses is gonna take A LOT more planning, effort and time. If you’re still up for it, google “yuecrossing gardening”. Best guides available.

I now have 75 blue roses. The Spawn rate is similar to the black roses, every 2 days a new rose appears unless you already have several then u can have 2 or 3 appear at one time.
