I liked playing through as Machop because linked Focus Energy + Karate Chop is a OHKO machine on most dungeon fodder, Bullet Punch has a two panel range to soften approaching enemies, and I bought a Rock Tomb TM to round out coverage and inflict speed reduction. Even though most bosses are Flying type, they don't SPAM Flying moves. It also helps that the Magnemite you automatically get is a beast that crushes Flying types. I chose Totodile as a partner. No regrets. I'd bump Machop to B-tier.
If you want an actual challenge i suggest doing a playthrough with Machop as your Main person with Bulbasaur as your partner. Try not to use any additional partners either. I've just replayed the story on my new switch with this set up and my words i spent half of my time trying to get through lapis cave and sky tower. Machop has an unfair advantage against all but one of the bosses you fight (That being Groudon, 2 if you count the Mankey Gang which can still kick your ass)
Delcatty is still pure normal. So Sylveon does have a very unique type in this game.
to be honest, I don't like to use attract. Yes I will have Skitty in one or two playthroughs and yes with double slap but I just don't like attract at all. It makes the game to easy and I always want a challenge and attract just takes it away. The only time I used attract was in the explorers series due to gender being a huge part in battle. that way you had to use strategy and skill in order to beat bosses instead of using attract all the time.
I evolved mine into a Magnezone! pretty cool huh, some GEN IVs are available in the remake which is awesome! We need a DLC!

magnemite wont be there for long though you will be a fugitive and absol will eventually join far stronger than magnemightttt
