◯ = Stat gains +4 with a superboon, ✕= Stat goes down by -4 with a superbane, - = No assets or flaws
See the IV Checker for All Units | Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs |
When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
As a hero obtainable only through Grand Hero Battle, Julius will always have neutral IVs by default. The only way to access IVs for this unit is through using Trait Fruits.
The best IVs for Julius are +Atk and -Def. Julius does not rely on Spd for follow-up attacks or for protecting him against hostile follow-up attacks so the only way to effectively increase his damage is through a +Atk IV. His Def is very low and is of less importance so it can be safely taken as his bane.
We recommend a +Atk IV when merging Julius to 10. This is for the same reason as above. This helps him get more damage per each attack. This increases his overall viability as a unit.

Fury 4

Julius' niche is tanking magic attacks from units that do not possess dragon-effectiveness. This is thanks to Loptous that inflicts an Atk penalty to them. Taking Fury 4 will allow him to improve his skillset, but do take note of the self-damage as it does rack up. Pair him up with a staff ally to remedy this. Quick Riposte 3 is a standard pick in the B slot for him to return damage after tanking. For the C and S slots, a double Ploy would suffice to make him even more tankier. With this build, merges, flowers, and some support, he can even tank physical foes to an extent!

This build stacks Atk and Res to turn Julius into a formidable magic tank. Refined Loptous provides damage reduction based on Res and applies multiple Atk/Res debuffs. Quick Riposte 3 ensures that Julius attacks twice in enemy phase.
Exclusive Weapon Effect from Refining (Special Effect Type) | |

SP: 400 | |
Might: 14 Range: 2 HP: Grants Res+3. Skills with "effective against dragons" are effective against unit. If foe has no skills with "effective against dragons," inflicts Atk/Res-6 on foe during combat and grants Dragon Wall 3 to unit. At start of turn, if any foe's Res < unit's Res and that foe is adjacent to another foe, inflicts Atk/Res-5 on that foe through its next action. At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, inflicts Atk/Res-5 on foe during combat. :500 :200 |
|
Loptous' refine gives Julius a total of the Dragon Wall 3 effect and will also inflict Atk/Res-5 on enemy units with lower Res than him.
He will also influct the same amount of debuffs on his target during combat as long as his HP ≥ 25%.
This is a really good refine because it makes Julius a great magic tank, since both instances of debuffs can stack on each other.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Julius is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.
Loptous and Atk Ploy 3 combine for -11 Atk under certain conditions. These skills combined with Guard 3 make Julius deceptively durable as they decrease the amount of damage enemies can dish-out.
Take note that Loptous' -6 Atk does not work on foes that have effects that make them strong against dragons.
The refined version of Loptous makes Julius even more powerful as a tank, granting him the following effects:
Guard 3 inflicts special cooldown charge -1 per attack if Julius' HP ≥ 80% at the start of combat.
This allows Julius and his allies to take less damage from enemies.
This skill is also very helpful in Grand Hero Battles where delaying enemy specials is very important as enemy specials in those maps are very powerful.
Additionally, this makes Julius a great match-up for units running set-ups that make Specials very quick to trigger such as Slaying Edge+ or Brave Sword+ or using Sacred Seals such as Flashing Blade 3 or Quickened Pulse.
Julius' Def only sits at 20 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for physical damage units to take him out.
Be mindful of Julius' positioning in relation to physical units that can easily take him out.
Despite not being a dragon unit, Loptous makes Julius take 1.5x damage from dragon-effective weapons like Falchion, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down.
Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!

Your hope is gone! To me, you’re nothing. I bring you death. Blood will rain. |

Why, hello, {Summoner}! Back from the slaughter? Let’s talk about who you plan to crush next. Tell me, what will you destroy? You don’t enjoy fighting, you say? Don’t play coy with me. You must enjoy it. Down to the very, very depths of your soul, I think… People live by taking from others—by defeating them, do they not? Those who don’t fight aren’t fit to live. Human kindness? There you go again, spouting nonsense. Surely you don’t really mean it! You may say whatever you like now, but you’ll be forced to acknowledge the truth sooner or later. And when you find out what lies beyond all of the fighting... I’ll be waiting for you, a smile on my face. |
