The hatchet is a great multipurpose tool that allows you to gather wood and ores. Upgrading the hatchet should be prioritized over other tools due to the new ores you can mine with it.
Ores are a requirement for most tool upgrades, so upgrading the hatchet first will benefit your upgrade progress for the other tools as well!

The watering can is used to facilitate seed growth on tilled farmland. Watered farmland can be watered twice a day, after the water dries out half a day later. Doing so will also further increase seed growth.
Walk up to the tilled soil with the watering can in hand and press your designated key to let it water one or more tiles of farmland. This range can be affected by the tool's upgrades for Jump Actions.

The hoe is used to prepare untilled farmland for planting seeds.
Walk up to the raw soil with the hoe in hand and press your designated key to till one or more tiles of farmland. This action is affected by the tool's upgrades for Jump Actions.
The hoe also lets you till distinguishable mounds around town, and doing so will unearth Rocks and Treasures such as Bronze Medals.

The sickle is used to cut down wild plants and weeds from map, as well as remove wilted crops from the player's farmland.
Walk up to the plants you wish to cut down with the sickle in hand, then use the tool to cut down all plants in front of you or in a range, affected by both the tool's upgrades for Jump Actions.

The hatchet is used to cut wood logs and break down stone ores, giving you valuable materials for crafting lumber and stone for tool upgrades, gemstone items, and Decor materials.
Walk up to either a wood log or a stone ore with the hatchet in hand and use the tool to harvest the item in front of you. The range of this is not affected by tool tier, and only has a set range for Jump Actions. Its upgrades only let you break other ores.

The fishing rod is used to catch different types of Fish around bodies of water.
Go towards the body of water you wish to fish in, then cast your rod to begin the fishing minigame. This minigame and the range is not affected by Jump Actions like other tools, but upgrades to the tool do impact the list of fish you can catch, as well as the Reel Power.

Once sheep or alpacas have reached adulthood, their thick wool can be gathered by using the Clippers tool. You can see if they're ready to be harvested once they have an icon of the Clipper popping above their heads.
Sheep or Alpacas are bought from the Bazaar or by having your Lamb or Cria, respectively, be grown in your barn.

To get higher quality produce from Farm Animals (except Chickens), you will need to Brush them everyday to increase their Friendship Level. The higher the level, the better their yields!

Once cows have reached adulthood, they can be milked for Milk-related produce via the use of the Milker tool. You can see if they're ready to be harvested once they have an icon of the Milker popping above their heads.
Cows are bought from the Bazaar in its adult form, or by having your Calves be grown in your barn.
