Baldur

Throw is a Bonus Action that has many creative uses in Baldur's Gate 3. Learn about throwing items and objects, its many uses, what it is best for, and more!

How to Use Throw

Use the Throw Skill

Baldur

The Throw action can be found under the class of Actions, more specifically between Hide and Disengage in the typical layout.

Throw is an Action similar to the Bonus Action Shove. Its performance depends on the Strength stat. The heavier the object, the shorter the throw distance.

Thow has a wide variety of uses like Shove. Not only can you throw items in general, but also bodies such as enemies and companions.

What is Strength?

Choose an Object to Throw

Baldur

Thrown weapons will do as much damage as their main hand attacks.

When using Throw, you can select an object in the unit's inventory or an object in within the area to throw at a target.

Using Throw with an item from the inventory will produce an arrow path. Simply aim and select a target to throw the chosen item.

If using Throw and selecting an object within the area, another aiming path will appear from the object's position. Proceeding with this action will cost the unit Movement, since the one throwing needs to get to the object first.

Best Ways to Use Throw

Throwing Objects

Baldur

Throw objects like flammable barrels or similar and set them alight with fire or lightning attacks.

Using hazardous objects like those in battle can give you the upperhand, especially if you are dealing with a large amount of enemies!

Use as a Ranged Attack

Baldur

If you think hard enough, everything is a throwing knife.

In case a party member does not have any access to a bow or similar ranged options, having a stock of throwable objects nearby can be useful.

At every corner of Baldur's Gate 3 is a fresh object ready to be thrown at the next unsuspecting victim. Look out for weapon racks, sharp objects, or even explosives that you can use to your advantage.

Throw Area of Effect Items

Baldur

Some Area of Effect items like the Grease Bottle and Caustic Bulb are meant to be thrown. Watch out for any objects that can cause explosions or area denial and use them to your advantage in combat.

When aiming items that cause area of effect damage, targeted enemies may need to roll for aSaving Throw. A successful Saving Throw can at least protect a unit from status effects.

If an enemy loses the Saving Throw, consider the attack a success!

What is Saving Throw?

You Can Also Throw Healing Items

Potions and similar items can also be thrown if you need to quickly heal an ally from afar.

Keep this in mind when you need a critical healing option for your team. Best used if one of your party members have run out of healing items.

List of All Potions

Use Throw for Stealth Advantage

Baldur

When paired with the Bonus Action Hide, the Throw Action gains an Advantage, making it a formidable skill with the right tools and approach.

Having an Advantage for your action means that you will roll an extra die for more chances success.

Weapons that are common, lightweight, and expendable, such as Daggers, make good throwing weapons that deal exceptional damage in the early game.

Advantage and Disadvantage Guide

Throwing Bodies

Baldur

Lightweight enemies, like the skeletal Entombed Scribes in the Dank Crypt, can easily be carried and thrown since they are only around 20kg.

Throwing also has practical uses in combat. It can be used to throw lightweights off ledges or throwing them at their own allies.

Thrown enemies will deal damage to both themselves and the receiving target, making it an economic way to deal with two enemies that are close to each other.

Retrieve Thrown Objects

Retrieving Weapons and Objects

Baldur

Objects like thrown weapons do not disappear upon hitting their target. However, thrown weapons can become unreachable if they are thrown over places party members cannot easily reach.

Make sure to check for thrown objects left on the ground after a long session of throwin , since you may have accidentally thrown your equipped weapon!
