Ability Held Item
Overgrow Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Leftovers ImageLeftovers

This build makes use of Overgrow, which will give Decidueye a boost to its Grass-type Moves in a pinch. Because this is a bulky set, Leftovers is the item of choice.

Moves Breakdown

Leaf Blade Spirit Shackle
Swords Dance Roost

Leaf Blade is a good physical Grass-type attack with a high critical hit rate.
Spirit Shackle is Decidueye's signature move, which prevents foes hit by it from leaving the field. Moves like U-Turn or Volt Switch can get around this, however.

Swords Dance will allow Decidueye to boost its Attack stat by two stages, setting up KOs on succeeding turns.

Roost is a move that Decidueye can use to recover HP.

Other Viable Moves

Sucker Punch With Choice Band and Tera Dark, Sucker Punch becomes immensely powerful.
Shadow Sneak A weaker but more consistent Priority Move option.

Ability and Held Item

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Decidueye Image
Ability Held Item
Long Reach Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Choice Band ImageChoice Band

Decidueye makes use of its Hidden Ability, Long Reach. This Ability protects it from making contact with physical moves, which is useful against opponents with Abilities like Flame Body or Static which won't inflict their status conditions on Decidueye.

Moves Breakdown

Leaf Blade Spirit Shackle
U-turn Brave Bird

Leaf Blade is a good physical Grass-type attack with a high critical hit rate.
Spirit Shackle is Decidueye's signature move, which prevents foes hit by it from leaving the field. Moves like U-Turn or Volt Switch can get around this, however.

With a Choice Band set, Decidueye makes good use of U-Turn, which allows it to switch out without commmiting to a hard switch. Its middling Speed stat is also good for U-Turn, as it can allow a teammate to switch in unharmed.

Brave Bird is a good Flying-type Attack that can deal good damage against Flying-weak Pokemon such as Amoonguss.

EV Spread and Nature

It is important to max out Attack EVs and give Decidueye an Adamant Nature for it to deal as much damage as possible. A full 252 is put into HP to give Decidueye some added bulk, while the remaining EVs are put into Special Defense to raise it by 1 point.

Other Viable Moves

Sucker Punch With Choice Band and Tera Dark, Sucker Punch becomes immensely powerful.
Shadow Sneak A weaker but more consistent Priority Move option.

How to Use Decidueye Effectively

Be Aware of Decidueye's Speed

It's easy to forget that Decidueye is not that fast. Remember which Pokemon outspeed it, and play accordingly.

Use Spirit Shackle to Trap Opponents

Spirit Shackle can prevent opponents from switching out. While this is bypassed by Moves that switch, such as Volt Switch and U-Turn, this is still a useful move to use, as most Pokemon do not run switching Moves.

List of Switching Moves

How to Build a Team with Decidueye

It is important to have good defensive switches for Decidueye. It is not the quickest or sturdiest Pokemon, so it will be on the field infrequently. Its teammates will be doing heavy lifting for it it during the match.

Sample Singles Team

Physical Attacker Physical Attacker Special Attacker
Garchomp ImageGarchomp Decidueye ImageDecidueye Wash Rotom ImageWash Rotom

Garchomp is a good Pokemon to have on the front end of your team, as it can set up Swords Dance and sweep. Decidueye can enter mid-game and cause problems for the opponent. While Wash Rotom works as a pivot for both these Pokemon, being able to switch into a super-effective attack intended for Garchomp or Decidueye, and switch back to either.

Sample Doubles Team

Physical Attacker Support / Physical Attacker
Decidueye ImageDecidueye Talonflame ImageTalonflame
Support / Redirection Physical Attacker
Maushold ImageMaushold Great Tusk ImageGreat Tusk

Talonflame can work as a good partner for Decidueye, setting up Tailwind for it so that it can outspeed counters, or Will-O-Wisp physically offensive threats. Decidueye can trap opponents with Spirit Shackle, and set them up for Great Tusk to KO later on.

Maushold can use Follow Me to redirect Ghost-type attacks away from Decidueye should they be on the field together.

Counters for Decidueye

Wall Decidueye with Dark and Steel-Types

Decidueye can easily be walled by Dark and Steel-types who resist its STAB Moves. Opponents may try to force these matchups on you and get you into disadvantageous situations. Switch Decidueye out for its other teammates if you have to.
