Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Build Offensive Team
This page explains everything you need to know about building an offensive team in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV). Read on to learn what hyper offense is, what strategies to use with an offensive team, and what countermeasures to use against one in Ranked Battles.

What is an Offensive Team?

Hyper Offense

Better known as Hyper Offense, these teams eschew dedicated defensive strategies for pure offense.

Establish Offensive Presence Early

To succeed with an offensive team, you need to establish an offensive presence early in the game.

This can take the form on a boost in team speed via Tailwind, setting up your offense with moves like Swords Dance or Nasty Plot, or just go straight to attacking!

Offensive Team Building

The Importance of Leads

While some of these Pokemon are essentially sweepers on their own, they play a secondary supportive role by establishing early-game momentum for the rest of your team.

The Three Types of Leads

Below are examples of the three effective Offensive Leads.

Offensive Leads
Pokemon Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style ImageUrshifu Rapid-Strike Style Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) ImageTornadus (Incarnate Forme) Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Ability Unseen Fist Prankster Protosynthesis
Held Item Mystic Water Covert Cloak Booster Energy
Role Physical Attacker Support / Utility Special Attacker

Strategies

Rapid Strike Urshifu can attack through Protect with its Unseen Fist Ability, able to land critical hit Surging Strikes at every chance.

Tornadus's access to Priority Tailwind courtesy of Prankster makes it an effective lead for offensive teams.

Flutter Mane's Offensive typing lets it attack into most types for neutral damage. Booster Energy can further boost its effectiveness, by giving it a boost to Speed or Special Attack depending on what the team requires.

How to Win with an Offensive Team

Maintain a Strong Offensive Core

Hyper Offense teams require a good offensive core to succeed. You can achieve this by having strong physical and special sweepers that cover each other's offensive shortcomings. It is even better if the three Pokemon have good type synergy.

Examples of Pokemon that can be in an Offensive Core are:

How to Counter an Offensive Team

Turn their Speed Against Them

Because Hyper Offense teams often rely on fast sweepers, turning their speed against them using Trick Room is an effective strategy.

Examples of good Trick Room Pokemon include:
