+Spd/-HP

The best IVs for Selkie are +Spd and -HP. This allows her to both score more follow-up attacks and defend from hostile follow-up attacks. Her HP is of less importance so it is safe to take as a bane.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Selkie to 10. This is for the same reasons as above. At max merges, she reaches 45 Spd which is very high. If you prefer to increase her raw damage, you can go for a +Atk IV instead. Her Atk is quite low for an offensive unit and even without the +IV, she still reaches fair levels of Spd.

How to Use, Explanation

This build uses the recoil from Fury 4 to activate Desperation and allow consecutive attacks for future engagements. Make sure to keep the unit alive after the first combat since they will be in exploitable HP ranges! Atk/Spd Menace and Swift Sparrow 2 help secure the follow-up attack.

How to Use, Explanation

This build takes advantage of the natural tankiness of the unit in tandem with Quick Riposte 3 to enable them to deal tons of damage in the enemy phase. If you cannot afford Atk/Def Menace, you can take Threat. Atk/Def 3 or anything that is similar in function.

The special effect refine of Foxkit Fang provides a Guard effect and neutralizes effects that prevent Selkie's follow-up attacks.

Selkie is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage she deals will be equivalent to her Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Selkie Strengths

Winning Res checks qualifies her for an all-stat buff

Foxkit Fang's primary effect has a very specific trigger condition:

  • Selkie's Res is more than the foe's
  • Foe is melee

If both conditions are satisfied at the start of combat, Foxkit Fang grants a buff to Atk/Spd/Def/Res equal to 50% of the difference between Selkie and the foe's stats. This buff is capped at +8 Atk/Spd/Def/Res. This makes merges and dragonflowers vital for Selkie as she benefits greatly from stat boosts.

It also allows her to transform if she meets the transformation requirements. Transformation grants her +2 Atk and if she initiates combat, Foxkit Fang inflicts -4 Atk/Def on the foe during combat. This greatly increases the damage she deals to the opponent.

Casts a penalty on adjacent foes

She learns the skill Sabotage Atk, which can inflict Atk -7 on foes whose Res stat is 3 or more points lower than her own when that foe is adjacent to another foe. It can be difficult to trigger, but when active, affected foes will deal significantly lower damage to Selkie's team.

This is great in Aether Raids as many Aether Keep layouts keep defense units very near each other.

Atk/Spd Bond Increases Offensive Power

Atk/Spd Bond 3 increases Selkie's Atk and Spd by +5 if she is adjacent to an ally. Since it is an in-combat buff, it stacks with other combat buffs, so it is good to pair with units that have skills like Atk Tactic or Spur Def. This also means that it stacks with Foxkit Fang's effects and Even Res Wave's effects. Have fun stacking buffs onto Selkie!

Selkie Weaknesses

Loses effectiveness if unable to win Res checks

Foxkit Fang and Sabotage Atk 3 depend on Selkie winning a Res check in order for them to trigger. Selkie will find herself unable to win Res checks in some situations and in these situations, both mentioned skills will be largely unavailable.

Abyssal maps from Grand Hero Battles or Mythic Hero Battles feature foes that have absurdly high Res stats and it is quite common that Selkie would not be able to activate mentioned skills. You may want to swap out Selkie's skills in order for her to perform properly in these maps.

Another thing to take note of Foxkit Fang's effects is that even if you win the Res check, Selkie would need to win other stat checks by a landslide to get huge buffs.

Unable to pass terrain due to being a cavalry unit

Selkie is a cavalry unit. Her movement type prevents her from passing terrain like forests, mountains and others. This is easily made up for by the 3-space movement but you should still take note of it regardless.

Weak to Cavalry Effective Weapons

Selkie takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Ridersbane, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take her down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
