List of Contents

To activate Hard Mode, players must find the research station located in the forest. Head down to the basement and flip the lever labelled with your username. In lobbies with multiple players, each player will have to flip their assigned lever.
Upgrade your fire as fast as possible to expand the map. Players can chop down trees to collect logs, collect coal and fuel cannisters, and defeat cultists to use their corpses as fuel for your fire.

There is a short window at the start of the game to activate Hard Mode. Players must activate the levers on Day 2, for the cutscene on Day 3 to occur, activating Hard Mode. After Day 2, there is no way to activate Hard Mode.
| List of Corruption Effects |

Upon activating Hard Mode, corruption will start spreading throughout the forest at a steady rate. As corruption increases, players will be afflicted with certain debuffs.

Activating Hard Mode causes the deer to grow hungry. This increases its aggro and makes it deal more damage, causing players to have less freedom to explore at night.
At 25% corruption, passive healing becomes disabled, requiring players to look for medkits and approach points of interest more carefully. Looking for armor and ranged weapons becomes a high priority objective.

At 50% corruption, Cultists begin to attack your base at night more often. Raids will spawn more cultists, with higher level cultists spawning at earlier nights.
Rot spores begin to affect food at 75% Corruption. Rotten food damages players when they consume it, however these can still be used in the Biofuel Processor to produce fuel for the campfire.
| Tips for Hard Mode |
|---|
|
|

Hard mode introduces Corrupted versions of tools and weapons. These are high-tier tools that speed up your progression, however they can only be used for a limited time as usage of these tools fills a corruption meter which causes them to break at max corruption.

To better track the rate of corruption, return to the research station to find the chest containing the Research Monitor Blueprint. This will help track your corruption and warn you of any imminent debuffs.

Players can also pick up the Rift Detector at the research station, which pings nearby rifts which players must clear. To clear rifts, players must chop down the corrupted trees and defeat corrupted enemies. Once this is done, the rift will stop glowing purple.
