the closest kind of game would be Kingdom Hearts 3 but if you haven't played any of the other KH games yet you won't understand the story at all.
Ff7 original. Enough said.
If you don't mind potentially spoiling yourself on the next parts (though lowkey the game kinda spoiled it for you), you should try playing through the original
Why not try playing through the older Final Fantasy games? The latest one (FF15) probably has the closest combat system to FF7R but the other games like FFX and FF9 are really really good too
The Bravely series is really good, especially if you're a fan of the classic Final Fantasy games. It's turn-based and only out for the 3DS right now but the games are definitely worth a shot
No. Just no. For the love of god, dont waster other people's time on this game. Aside from graphics, this game has nothing else to offer.
Here's a list for RPGs.
Persona (3 and 4 are outdated but is still worth a try) there are several references to the past games but it is not necessary to play them so you can jump straight to 5 royal.
Trials of mana just came out. Looks kinda nice IMO.
Ni No Kuni is on sale rightnow. Imagine ghibli meets RPG.
Octopath. An Indie game that pays homage to the classic RPGs. One of the best games I played recently.
Try the "Tales Of" games. They're RPGs too and they kinda have an action-style battle system. It's not exactly like FF7R, but they're great
If you're willing to put in the time, there are collections that have all the games/story you need to know for KH on PS4
If you want to see valkyrie profile from a western take ( if u even know the masterpiece called valkyrie profile) then check out indivisible.
This game is really good. Specially liked the battle theme. Can still hear it in my head.
Not an RPG and more of a platformer meets darksouls type of game. Check out HollowKnight. The game still gets expansion packs and the game keeps getting better and better. Sequel is also about to come out so now is the best time to start playing it.
If you liked the action gameplay of FF7R, you might like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. They can be really hard games, but the challenge makes the experience worth it
Come to me my noble Einherjars.
For new ff players. Definitely try out 10 first. Best ff game to start out with. The originaility of what made ff good is there. Good storyline, good soundtrack, and for the thirsty people, it also has good romance.
If we're talking about Hollow Knight, people should try out Ori and the Blind Forest too
I agree. It also probably has the best implementation of a turn-based battle system too with the conditional turn-based battle system
Yeah, its turn based to the core. They didnt use the atb approach (which is heavily flawed IMO, take the atb of ff8 for example).
It's a bit of an oldie but if you like games for the story you should play Final Fantasy Tactics. Gameplay's almost nothing like FF7R but the story is just as grand (or even grander)
Whoever made this thread is a genius. An RPG collection trove. And since we're on the tactics genre, anyone better try this beauty. It has an infinite 50 turn revert but even so, it's still hard as hell. Give it a try.
If u want a lighter toned tactical game then give this one a try. There's already five of these with various spin offs. A great game for me. Seems shallow at first glance but try getting to the post game and LoC. Focused on gameplay not story btw.
Saving the world? Rescuing the princess? Nah fk those shits. Ur a demon and u wanna be the strongest so you beat the crap out of everyone. This is the main plot.
Thats.... interesting?
Witcher 3 I guess? Not a game of the year winner for nothing.
The way they advertise this game is like a mobile game. Reach level 9999, deal millions of damage! And in a way, it works.
Yeah, bravely series makes me remember the roots of ff. Job systems, crystals, world map, hidden dungeons and sidequests. Its really nice.
If you're a fan of old school games then try out re3 remake.
This probably doesnt even need to be said but.. SKYRIM.
Dovahkiin!
The remade mana game seems interesting.
No one mentioning bloodstained ritual of the night? Really gives that symphony of the night feel.
Its not yet release but im really looking forward to elden ring. Im sure its not a game i can clear without guides but its an rr martin story for a video game so im hella excited.
We cant really suggest a game similar to ff7 remake cause theres no game with such a polished battle system like this yet. But these list of rpg is really something. Let me add the breath of fire series here. A pretty old game but still a gem.
Since we're going to the classics. Just wanna suggest chrono trigger. A bad sequel for it is Chrono cross. A bad sequel ok? Not a bad game. In fact, its soundtrack is the best i heard over anygame up to this date.
A classic and a game that I also believe, deserves a remake as much as FF7 is Xenogears. But if they're having trouble remaking ff7 then they're gonna have a worse time with this one. Imagine ff7 graphics but your dudes ride huge ass mechas.
No honor on the great suikoden? That game doesnt really need a remake or remaster cause its still pure fire.
Breath of Fire is really good, especially 3 and 4.The battle system is turn-based so it's not like the remake, but the story's pretty great
Do you mean just the first one or its sequels too? I've only played Suikoden 2 and I love that game so much
You might like the Dissidia games. They're more like fighting games than they are RPGs but they're all still pretty cool
The fan base is divided for the sequels but almoat everyone is united on part 2 being the best. But they're all great games.
I actually liked part 2 on the gbc more than 3 but thats just me. 3 is amazing dont get me wrong. I just liked the feel of 2. Its pretty light.
They're definitely not the best fighting game around but still pretty good. I second this.
If you're looking for games with similarly expansive worlds, can't go wrong with the Trails games from the Legend of Heroes series. Literally every NPC has things going on in Trails in the Sky
Don't forget Trails of Cold Steel! Those are really good too and they're far enough from the Trails in the Sky games that you can play them on their own
RR Martin? Now I'm liking this game reco board now.
Several good RPGs here. To those people saying no good RPGs around just aint looking properly.
Trials of mana is really hype right now. No one getting it?
Kind of a bit unknown conpared to other games but last remnant is pretty good. Just kind of hard to ubderstand the games battle system.
Hey hey hey! Ang league fans here? Legends of runeterra is releaaing on may 1! Anyone playing it?
Is it better than hearthstone?
Guys and girls. Ever heard of Grandia?
Can't really say. Lets just wait for the release but It looks promising. If you're really curious, you can try its beta.
Someone posted valkyie profile here so would just like to mentikn its sequel silmeria and spin off in the ds version.
Completing the ds version without using plumes is though as hell so for those looking for a challenge give that one a go. I think the title was covenant of the plume and strays away from valkyries and is instead focused on humans.
Its about a human who's father was taken by the valkyrie for fighting in the battlefield. Having his fatger taken away, he swears vengeance upon the valkyries until he dies and the goddess Hel revives him and gives him power for revenge.
Star ocean 2 is pretty nice too. If you really like a lot of characters in your roster. Might need a guide though as you cant get certain characters if tou recruit some on the way to them.
Kept hearing about resonance of fate but I dunno since never played it.
Lunar silver star story.
Since im seeing chronotrigger and ds games. Check radiant historia. A game involving time travel.
Its also as traditional as how traditional rpg goes.
Game is more action rightnow than rpg so why not just play games likes dmc or bayonetta
Atelelier series has updated graphics but is subpar. Persona 5 is really the best rpg right now. ( liked it more than ff7 tbh).
Ill just keep saying persona series on every thread like this because everyone needs to play it. Especially 3, no matter how old it gets.
Like what the HELL Atlus! RE 2 and 3 gets remade, trials of mana gets remade, ff7 gets remade, we need a persona 3 and 4 remake now! Also 2!
Yeah I really liked 3 more than the others too. Its just a bunch of kids hurt by circumstances and are trying to survive. And a really tragic end for the MC. Listens to memories of you.
Better warn about to be players that the game is dark. Rwal dark.
More love for star ocean.
Assassins creed valhalla just got announced.
Gods and monsters looks exciting too.
So xenoblade is about to come out (definitive edition) is it worth picking up?
Looks good actually. Might want to try it if you're interested in the series.
fan of assassins creed, what platform though?
and is this a series game like other ac games? is it a sequel or prequel to one ac game? would love to know more.

What games can we play after completing FF7R?
