Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Shiny Annihilape Mass Outbreak Guide
Players can increase their chances of getting a shiny Annihilape through outbreaks in the Teal Mask DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV). Read on to learn how to get a shiny Annihilape via outbreaks, shiny hunting tips, and more!

Annihilape Mass Outbreak Shiny Hunting Guide

Teal Mask DLC Required for Annihilape Mass Outbreaks

Hunting for Shiny Pokemon during a Mass Outbreak is one of the most reliable ways of catching a Shiny. This was not possible for Annihilape in the base game of Scarlet and Violet. However, Annihilape can now be caught in the wild in Kitakami and can also appear in Mass Outbreaks in that region!

The Mass Outbreak method of Shiny hunting Annihilape is only possible as long as you have the Teal Mask DLC.

To Shiny hunt Annihilape using the Mass Outbreak method, follow the following steps:

  1. Have an Annihilape Outbreak on Your Map
  2. Increase Shiny Odds by Clearing 60 Spawns
  3. Reroll the Spawns Until a Shiny Appears

Have an Annihilape Outbreak on Your Map

The first step is to make sure you have an Annihilape Outbreak on your map. Annihilape Outbreaks can only be found in Kitakami, so make sure you're looking at the Kitakami map when checking your Outbreaks.

Reroll Outbreaks by Adjusting System Time

While you could just naturally wait for an Annihilape Outbreak to appear on your map by checking daily, you can also force the game to reroll your outbreaks by adjusting your Switch's system time.

Without closing out of the game, access your Switch's Settings and turn off the setting that automatically adjusts your system date and time. Tweak the time and roll it back by a minute, then re-enter your game. Checking your map should reveal that the Mass Outbreaks for the map have changed.

Increase Annihilape Outbreak Odds by Eating an Encounter Power Sandwich

Eating an Encounter Power: Ghost Lv. 2 sandwich will increase the odds of an Annihilape Outbreak spawning. If you have a lot of Herba Mystica to spare, you can use the Sparkling Power: Ghost Lv.3 sandwich recipes to also get Encounter Power: Ghost Lv.3.

Increase Shiny Odds by Clearing 60 Spawns

Conditions Base Odds Shiny Charm Sparkling Power Sandwich Lv. 3 Shiny Charm

60 or more cleared 1/1365 1/819 1/683 1/512

As you defeat or catch more of the same Pokemon in a Mass Outbreak, the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon among them increases. Defeating them via Let's Go also counts.

From the base odds of a shiny in every 4096 Pokemon, defeating at least 30 from the outbreak improves the odds by half (1 in 2048). By defeating at least 60 you improve the odds further to be 1 in 1365.

These are Sparkling Power Lv. 3 Recipes that we recommend for hunting Shiny Annihilape

Make use of items like the Shiny Charm or a Sparkling Power Sandwich to further increase your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon. Using both items is the best method, as it improves your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon further from 1 in 1365 to 1 in 512!

Shiny Hunting Guide and Shiny Odds

Reroll the Spawns Until a Shiny Appears

Regular Annihilape on the left, Shiny Annihilape on the right

Once you've defeated or caught at least 60 of the target spawns, we recommend to stop clearing them, since clearing a large excess beyond the initial 60 might cause the outbreak to end.

Instead focus on rerolling the spawns. You can do this by running around the area as Pokemon further from you despawn, and you spawn more near you. Alternatively, you can set up a picnic to clear the spawns, then exit out of the picnic to have more spawn in.

Annihilape Only Appears at Night

Even though the Mass Outbreak icon for Annihilape will be on your map regardless of the time of day, Annihlape can only spawn at night. Unfortunately, this may make spotting Shiny Annihilape a bit harder.

Shiny Annihilape is blue but may look similar to Annihilape's regular gray color while in the darkness of night.

Shiny Annihilape Catching Tips

Hopefully, after following the steps above, you've spotted Shiny Annihilape. Great! Here are a few tips before you start the encounter.

  1. Save Before the Encounter
  2. Start the Encounter with a Back-Strike
  3. Prevent it from Self-Destructing
  4. Lower its HP
  5. Consider a Matching Poke Ball

Save Before The Encounter

Before anything else, save your game! You're probably really excited to grab the Shiny Annihilape right away, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Doing a manual save is a good safety precaution for anything that might go wrong. It'll save you from any potential agony from the encounter despawning, game crashes, running out of Poke Balls, or accidental KOs.

Start the Encounter with a Back-Strike

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Annihilape Mass Outbreak Hunt
Instead of running up to Shiny Annihilape to start the encounter, consider sneaking up behind it, then throw your Poke Ball with ZR to catch it by surprise. Starting the Encounter with this back-strike gives you initiative in the form of a free turn where Shiny Annihilape will be too stunned to react.

Prevent Shiny Annihilape from Self-Destructing

Speaking of accidental KOs, the Annihilape in Kitakami can be found at a very high level and will likely have the self-KO move Final Gambit. To avoid the heartbreak of watching a Shiny you've hunted for disappear, we recommend preparing ways to prevent it from knocking itself out.

Since Final Gambit is a Fighting-type move, Ghost-type Pokemon should be immune to it. Otherwise, a faster Pokemon that knows the move Taunt can also stop it from using status moves.

Lower Shiny Annihilape's HP

・Can use Taunt to prevent the use of Final Gambit

As a Ghost-type, Annihilape is normally immune to False Swipe. However, when used with Hisuian Decidueye's Scrappy Ability, this can be a safe way to bring the target to red HP.

If you don't have access to Hisuian Decidueye, it may be better to attack with low power, resisted moves to carefully deal damage.

Best Ball to Catch Shiny Annihilape In

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) - Moon BallMoon Ball Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) - Luxury BallLuxury Ball

While you could catch Shiny Annihilape in any Poke Ball you prefer, there's a pretty fun tradition of selecting a Poke Ball that thematically matches the Shiny Pokemon you'll catch.

A Moon Ball suits Shiny Annihilape's blue and black color palette, and it also seems appropriate since Annihilape can only be caught at night.

The Luxury Ball is also a good pick because of its black base color.

It may be a bit difficult to distinguish between these two versions of Annihilape. Annihilape's Shiny form is blue in color, though it is more blue-gray than a vibrant blue.

Annihilape's regular color is gray. When viewed in dim lightning, these two colors of Annihilape may look very similar.
