+Res / -Spd

The best IVs for Validar are +Res and -Spd. Res is Validar's most important stat, being the basis for Grimleal Text's penalty effects. Boosting Res maximizes the chances of Validar cripping multiple foes prior to combat.

Validar's Spd is a clear dump stat and is a safe bane to take.

Validar requires winning a Res check to trigger Grimleal Text, thus, stacking Res through Still Water skills is ideal in ensuring he triggers the debuff effects. Stacking further Res-based debuffs in Sabotage A/R 3 and Atk/Res Ploy 3 improves Validar's performance.

Validar is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.

Validar's Grimleal Text inflicts Def/Res-6, 【Panic】, and 【Discord】 on foes within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on Validar upon winning a Res check at the start of each turn. Applying multiple penalties at a distance to multiple enemies is an incredible support tool, making Validar one of the best dual-role units in the game by both providing long-range support as well as fulfilling a magic tank role when necessary.

Grimleal Text also inflicts Atk/Res-6 to Validar's foe during combat and grants Validar a guaranteed follow-up attack and bonus damage based on the total number of non-stat【Penalty】 effects active on foe and any foe within 2 spaces of that foe. These effects ensure Validar can hit hard and defeat his crippled enemies with ease.

Validar Weaknesses

Reliance on Penalties

Validar's performance heavily relies on inflicting penalties onto his foes, either through Grimleal Text or by other means.

There are multiple ways to avoid these penalties, such as by winning the Res check, or by cleansing them off with skills like Odd Recovery 3 or simply ending action and refreshing turns.

Validar's performance against foes without penalties is quite lacking, making him a sitting duck on the battlefield.

Abysmal Spd

Validar's Spd stat is quite poor at only base 17, and he lacks a way to prevent his foe's follow-up attacks.

He will be attacked twice most of the time, relying solely on raw stats to survive combat.

Validar is a Hero who, for a limited time, can be obtained through completing a Grand Hero Battle for the first time. They do not appear in regular summons. After the event has ended, they can be obtained by using Heroic Grails.
