When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Spd/-Res

The best IVs for Rafiel are +Spd and -Res. His base Spd is at 35, which is rather average. This means that high-speed units can still take him out, and a +Spd IV would increase his survivability significantly. Rafiel can afford a bane in Res, as it is pretty high and it is not a superbane. Just make sure to merge him if you pull a duplicate as to recover the -3 Res that is lost from taking this bane, allowing him to tank magic attacks even better.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Rafiel to 10. With a +Spd IV, Rafiel's Spd stat will reach 42 at 10 merges, which makes it even easier to prevent follow-up attacks from fast enemies. Once he reaches 42, he will also be able to get a significant amount of follow-ups of his own.

Rafiel is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Rafiel Strengths

Groom's Wing Speeds-up Special Cooldown of Support Partner

One of the effects of Groom's Wing is that it grants special cooldown -1 to Rafiel's support partner at the start of turn 1. This synergizes well with weapons like Killing Edge+, skills like Special Spiral 3, and seals like Quickened Pulse. You can potentially take out high priority units at the start of battles with Rafiel's abilities , if combined with the right hero. This is very important in the Arena or Aether Raids.

Additionally, Rafiel is a refresher-assist buff unit, which makes him a good candidate to be a support partner with offensive powerhouses like Caineghis or the Reinhardt both whose damage output will reach amazingly high levels if their specials are activated on turn one.

Buffs Beast Units' Def and Res

Rafiel's C skill, Ward Beasts grants +4 Def/Res to all beast allies within 2 spaces of Rafiel. Since he is a beast unit himself, this skill allows him to be a strong candidate for a support unit in all-beast teams.

Weak to Beast Effective Weapons

Rafiel takes 1.5x damage from beast-effective weapons like Brave Eliwood's Nini's Ice Lance, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
