+Spd/-Res

The best IVs for Summer Frederick are +Spd and -Res. A higher Spd stat allows Frederick to take less follow-up attacks. His Res is already low and it is of less importance so it is safe to take it as his bane. Additionally, he has access to multiple debuffs which decreases foes' damage output so he can probably survive more attacks than one might think.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Summer Frederick to 10. With +10 merges, his Spd will reach 38 allowing him to dish-out follow-up attacks on slower units. This also increases his survivability as it further improves his ability to avoid follow-up attacks. If you do not mind follow-up attacks or you plan to inherit Close Counter onto him, you can go for a +Atk or +Def IV instead.

How to Use, Explanation

This is an offensive build that tries to stack as much Spd as possible for Summer Frederick in order to guarantee him a follow-up attack with Starfish+. Special Spiral ensures that his Special will always be active, while Joint Drive Spd further increases his Spd for easier follow-up attacks.

Summer Frederick is a ranged physical attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Summer Frederick Strengths

Seashell+ Makes Frederick Stronger at 100% HP

Seashell+ grants him +2 to all stats if he is at 100% HP. However, it deals damage to him if he initiates combat so it is hard to keep the buff on for long. It is similar to Celica's Ragnarok. Be sure to pair a healer with Frederick to help keep this buff active!

Great Debuffing Ability

Seashell+ and Seal Atk/Spd 2 combine for a total penalty of -5 Atk/Spd, -7 Def/Res that is inflicted after combat. That is a huge total debuff to the foe which Frederick's allies can take advantage of.

Armored Blow 3 Boosts Survivability

Armored Blow 3 grants +6 Def to Summer Frederick if he initiates combat. This makes good as a player phase unit as it reduces the damage he takes from counterattacks. If you inherit skills like Ignis and Bonfire to Frederick, Armored Blow 3 can also allow you to deal more damage.

Low Res

Summer Frederick's Res only sits at 18 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Summer Frederick's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out.

Low Offensive Performance

Summer Frederick's offensive power is low. When integrating him into team compositions, make sure to include a high-powered offensive unit to accompany him as he is best used as a debuff support instead of a primary attacker. His assist skill, Ardent Sacrifice, also comes into play in this role as he can support his allies through healing.

Seashell provides +2 to all stats if Summer Frederick is at 100% HP, but after battle, it deals damage to him. If you pair him up with a staff ally who can heal him back up, you can keep this buuf active at most times.

Units that can deal with dragonstone users

Summer Frederick will have a hard time dealing with dragonstone users. In an attempt to debuff them, Frederick will attack dragonstone users and most of them will be able to take him out with a counterattack. Armored Blow 3 only protects against physical attacks and many dragonstone users have some kind of Distant Counter that can make quick work of him. Pair him up with Falchion users like Alm and Marth so that they can deal with these kinds of units for Frederick. Instead of Frederick supporting them by debuffing the dragonstone users, he can just heal them with Ardent Sacrifice if they have taken damage.

Units that hit hard with counterattacks

As mentioned above, Frederick will have a hard time dealing with magical units as he cannot really do anything to them. If he attacks them, he will be taken out by the counterattack as he has little to no defense against magic attackers. Pay close attention to units that have raven tomes that have type advantage over him or dragonstone users with a Distant Counter variant.
