Get as Many Points as Possible

Super Mario RPG - Beetle Mania Controls and Shooting

Controls
A, B, or Y Shoot Star
Left and Right Analog Stick / D-Pad Move Beetle

In Beetle Mania, the goal is to get as much points as possible. It is played by using the corresponding controls to shoot moving red Koopa shells and evade them!

Chain Shells for a Higher Score

Super Mario RPG - Beetle Mania Chain Shells

Hitting a Koopa shell will reward points and cause it to scatter stars. The scattered stars are able to hit you and other Koopa shells.

Each shell hit by a star will give you double points, and as long as there are shells to hit on-screen, you can keep earning points (up to 9999 from one shell.) Time your hits so that you can maximize earning points!

Take care that these scattered stars can hit you too, so be cautious if there are too many shells on-screen!

Beetle Revives When Flipped Over

Super Mario RPG - Beetle Mania Life Count.png

Getting hit by a red Koopa shell will flip the beetle over, and will display a number over it that counts from zero to three, and during this time you must press a button repeatedly to revive it. If not, the beetle will burst into stars, hitting the shells and adding to the score, ending the minigame.

You can spam A, B, and Y simultaneously to revive faster since they're all used to fire or revive. Doing this trick will revive you in an instant that you won't even see the countdown!

Your first revive can be made by pressing five (5) times in a row. Each revive will cost more button presses the more you go down.

Beetle Mania Heart Containers

Super Mario RPG - Beetle Mania Heart

The number of button presses you will need for a revive will be reduced whenever you acquire heart containers from hitting a Koopa Shell.

Focus on getting these hearts as much as you can, since they will make it easier for you to revive!

Go to the Corner and Wait for Lots of Shells

Super Mario RPG Remake - Wait in the Corner

You won't be able to chain shells and get lots of points if there aren't that much shells to begin with. You can wait in the corner and wait until there are lots of shells in the screen, then fire off a star and receive a lot of points.

Fire One Shot at a Time

Super Mario RPG Remake - Fire Once at the Edge of the Screen

When shells are gathered, fire only one star to connect combos and gain more points. Firing off multiple shots will break the chain, resulting in fewer points gained.

Attack Once Shells Have Gathered on the Other Side

Super Mario RPG Remake - Many Beetles on the Other Side

The best time to fire is when the shells have gathered on the opposite side of your corner. This is to ensure that the shells will create a chain with other shells since they're very close to one another.
