| Steps to proceed through New Moon Island | |

| 1 | Climb the stairs and travel west to reach the entrance to the lake area. |
| 2 | Interact with Darkrai, and this will trigger a battle. You will only encounter Darkrai once, now is your only chance if you want to catch it. Darkrai will be added to your National Pokedex even without catching it. |
| 3 | After the battle, you'll wake up in Harbor Inn. Go outside the Inn, and a sailorman will tell you that you have been sleeping for a long time. |
During the battle, carefully weaken Darkrai using a move with low Power or use a move that will put it to sleep or paralyze. If you choose to put it to sleep at the beginning of the battle, use a Quick Ball.
But if you choose to weaken it first, you can use a Timer Ball after several turns or a Dusk Ball when its night time. Then, use an Ultra Ball as your last resort. Keep on throwing Ultra Ball until you successfully catch it. You can also use your Master Ball for a faster catch if you have not consumed it yet on other Legendary Pokemon.
