This guide covers the Gates game mode in Solo Leveling Arise. Learn how to spawn Red Gates, how to get Gate Keys, why farm Gates, the different types of Gates, and how to mine Gates!
List of Contents
Once you've cleared A New Message Battle Quest and The Offer Story Quest in Chapter 7, you will unlock Red Gates. Red Gates offer better rewards than normal gates when spawned.
Compared to normal Gates, Red Gates presents a tougher challenge with Hard difficulty only. These gates consist of four enemy waves and feature a destructible sculpture that applies debuffs throughout the stage.
Red Gates spawn randomly and can appear after clearing other gates. Sometimes a Red Gate spawns immediately after a scan, while other times they appear after you complete a few normal gates. A Red Gate can appear at any time, with no specific number of gates needing to be cleared beforehand.
Red Gates can spawn after rescanning. Each rescan generates different gates, and you can attempt rescanning multiple times until a Red Gate appears. There is a 5-minute cooldown for rescanning for free, but you have the option to pay 500 gold to rescan immediately.
Players start by being able to replenish up to 10 Gate Keys at a time for free every day, but they can hold several Keys over the maximum refresh limit in case they are gifted in the Mailbox or choose to purchase Gate Keys. Gate Keys are necessary to enter Gates, with one consumed upon each successful Gate attempt.
For those that wish to keep farming Gates without waiting for the daily reset, they can spend 150 Essence Stones to purchase 3 Gate Keys at a time, up to a maximum of 10 transactions a day
After clearing Main Chapter Story 2's Boss stage, To Overcome, you will be able to challenge the Assassin Job Change quest for Sung Jinwoo. After beating this quest, you will unlock the Gates mode.
Gates are the main dungeons for grinding character growth materials, primarily Mana Crystals that can be used to exchange for resources such as Weapon Enhancement Gear and Artifact Enhancement Chips, or even Keys for other game modes, in the Store.
Aside from Mana Crystals, each Gate can have a specific set of rewards such as Weapon Enhancement Gear, Artifact Enhancement Chips, Armor Artifacts, Melding Cubes, and Essence Stones, not to mention the Reputation, XP, and Gold that comes from clearing the Gate. Also note that each day, you get up to 14,340 bonus XP for clearing at least three Gates.
Outside of the Gates mode itself, there are Challenges, Achievements, normal Missions, and Hunter Pass Missions tied to clearing several Gates per day, week, or season, or for the total number of Gates cleared. Keep Gate-clearing in your routine so you do not miss out on rewards such as Essence Stones, Gold, and more enhancement materials.
When checking Gates, you scan the map at a specific Difficulty, which determines the possible rewards, Gate Battle Power, team restrictions, and Gate Types of non-Red Gates. Higher difficulties lead to greater rewards. There are five different Gate Types for you to challenge and plan your teams around.
Gate Type | Description |
---|---|
Normal Gates | Common gates that are played in either Player Mode or Hunter Mode. |
Dungeon Breaks | Gates found during Difficulty 5 or higher scans that can only be entered in Player Mode. |
Red Gates | Unlocked after clearing Chapter 7, these are tougher, Hard difficulty-only Gates consisting of 4 enemy waves and a destructible debuff-applying sculpture on the stage. |
Bonus Gates | Completely random Gates that spawn in unpredictable locations. |
Special Gates | Dungeons with stages that have unique requirements, such as destroying treasure chests or defending against goblin waves. |
Gates have active team restrictions, requiring you to play in either Player Mode, which requires Sung Jinwoo in the party, or Hunter Mode, which only allows Hunters to be in the party. Make sure you are investing equally in both Sung Jinwoo and your Hunters so that you can tackle any Gate that pops up on the map.
If you are aiming for specific types of Gates, or your team is neither strong enough nor can target the Gates' Bosses' elemental weaknesses, you can wait five minutes to rescan for new Gates for free. However, you can opt instead to instantly rescan the map for new Gates for only 500 Gold, which will speed up the overall process of farming Gates and give you an earlier start on mining Gates.
After successfully clearing a Gate, press Go to Gate Mining to assign a mining team to harvest the materials in the Gate. You have a maximum of three mining teams to send out by default, with extra mining teams being purchasable at 2,000 Essence Stones each.
Whenever a mining team is finished with a Gate, they will earn Mining Team XP to increase their level to a maximum of Level 20. Ensure you are mining as much as possible to level up your mining teams and get bonuses per rank including faster mining times, higher gold, and bonus reward rates.
The time it takes for a mining team to finish harvesting materials depends on the difficulty of the Gate, and elapses even if you are not logged in. You can also spend Essence Stones to harvest materials immediately. Whichever method you choose, make sure to dispatch mining teams ASAP, as cleared Gates disappear after 24 hours and will not be mineable anymore.
After clearing Chapter 6, Stage 6 on Normal difficulty, you are given the option to Sweep a Gate if a Hunter, or Sung Jinwoo, is above a certain Battle Power level that exceeds the Gate's own Battle Power. The number of times you can Sweep within a day depends on the amount of Sweep Points your Hunters have or the number of Special Sweep Tickets you hold.
If you are working towards a Special Commission kill count that requires you to kill Intermediary Bosses, unfortunately, those types of enemies will not be counted as kills if you Sweep a Gate. Only the Final Boss will be counted towards Special Kill Commissions if you choose to sweep a Gate.
