Countermeasures against Gold Rathian

Recommended Weapon Element and Armor Skills

Recommended Weapon Element
Thunder Weapon Gold Rathian is weakest against thunder.
Recommended Armor Skills
Guard For shield weapons (lance, gunlance, etc.), having Guard at Lvl 3 or Lvl 5 (if you have the space) is highly recommended against Gold Rathian.
Evade Window For the rest of the weapon types, Evade Window and the extra invincibility frames it gives you will be important against Gold Rathian.
Stun Resistance Gold Rathian is much more aggressive than Rathian and Pink Rathian, so chances are you are going to get stunned easier. Stun Resistance at Lvl 3 is indispensable.
Free Meal When you go up against Gold Rathian, you can easily run out of Antidote, Herbal Medicine, Max Potions, and Ancient Potions. Getting Free Meal (up to Lvl 3 if you have Free Meal Secret) is a great solution to this.
Earplugs Unlike its variants, Gold Rathian has a big roar, so Earplugs Lvl 5 would be immensely helpful.

How to Beat Gold Rathian

Enhanced Attacks

Normal Fire State

Gold Rathian has an additional state where his head and chest will have a reddish-purple glow. During this state, he enhances the power and range of most of his attacks. Also, his fire attacks will now tend to remain on the ground which can limit your movement.

Releasing the Fire State

You can release the fire state by inflicting enough damage on to the head. It is the best time to use your traps or ride Gold Rathian using your clutch claws and focus his head during the fire state.

Poison Ailment

Gold Rathian uses a lot of tail attacks that can inflict poison if it hits. You can try building up your Poison Resistance skill to level 3, this will completely counter any poison from his attacks. However, if you do not have any good gear with Poison Resistance, bringing an Antidote or Herbal Medicine will work as well to immediately cure any poison ailments.

Cleanser Booster

Using a Cleanser Booster can also be crucial to your hunt especially if another party member does not have any of the poison counters mentioned above.

Somersault Attack

How to Beat - Gold Rathian 3.png
Watch out for Gold Rathian's somersault attack, followed-up by two consecutive flame breaths. This attack has a wide range and it can be difficult to avoid if you play aggressively. You should prioritize dodging over finishing your combos during this hunt especially if Gold Rathian is on his fire state.

Legs or Wings

If Gold Rathian is not in his fire state, it is recommended that you focus on attacking the legs or the wings. Focus on attacking these parts to maximize your damage output as they are the most vulnerable areas during the normal state.

Blue Flame

How to Beat - Gold Rathian 4.png
Gold Rathian can release a powerful blue flame that can instantly cart you if you get directly hit. This attack charges up as the fight goes on and it takes a long time to be ready. Because of this, you do not have to worry about this attack but you should be prepared to get out of its range when it is ready.
