I believe the Pokémon trainer is the best fighter being able to switch between Pokémon keeps your opponent on his toes whether it be a small Squirtle who has a really good dash attack a water gun disrupting your enemy's plan a ivysaur who is although very conditional is can be useful or Charizard who despite having a large hitbox has some powerful attacks. however I am not a pro player so this is just my experience with friends

Luigi. I see why people choose steve tho, just a broken character but can still easily can be outsmarted. All steve players are just extremely predictable

Imao, Zelda has some potential. I mean, she is in the C range, but she has potential. Honestly, she is my best character. She just needs to have some getting used to, and practice. All that to say, she's worth a shot.
