Builders of Egypt was just announced at TGA 2024! Read on to learn how it plays, what it's about, and everything else we know so far.
Builders of Egypt Gameplay
Builders of Egypt operates with many of the hallmark mechanics of the city-building genre, featuring a grid-based layout, proximity bonuses for buildings, and a milestone-based progression system.
The game’s objectives vary depending on the chosen mode. In Campaign Scenarios, players complete specific goals while gradually learning the game’s mechanics. In Sandbox Mode, they enjoy the freedom to design and develop an Ancient Egyptian city according to their vision.
Each game begins with players laying out their city on the world grid, starting with roads and then constructing housing to attract residents. As the population grows, their needs must be met, and rising living standards improve housing capacity.
To sustain the city and generate income, players create jobs by constructing facilities such as stockpiles, farms, granaries, brickworks, and clay pits to extract, process, and store resources. The game operates on strict monthly and yearly cycles. Monthly, players manage industry upkeep by paying wages, balanced against income from traders purchasing goods.
Yearly, players must account for the flooding of the Nile, which can disrupt farm production depending on the cycle's timing. By maintaining this cycle of resource management and trade, players can eventually undertake the construction of monuments—massive projects requiring substantial resources and careful planning to complete.
Builders of Egypt Story Plot
Builders of Egypt offers a loose historical recount of Ancient Egyptian history, incorporating real-life locations, significant events, notable pharaohs, and cultural celebrations. While it doesn’t follow a traditional linear narrative, the game presents its historical context through campaign missions and narrated exposition segments.
The game also doesn't have any characters apart from mentioned historical figures, although its narrative scope does cover the establishment of Memphis up to a few centuries after.
