Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Gameplay
In Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, players step into the role of a new character, a bastard child from the minor Northern House Tyre, existing outside the established storyline of the television series. The game features real-time combat against familiar enemies like White Walkers and bandits within an open world.
Players begin by selecting one of three distinct character classes: Knight, Sellsword, or Assassin. Each class presents unique combat styles and abilities. The Knight wields a longsword and offers balanced stats and straightforward attack patterns suitable for beginners. The Sellsword utilizes a massive axe for slower yet powerful attacks, inspired by characters like Tormund Giantsbane. The assassin employs dual daggers for swift hit-and-run tactics, while making use of smoke bombs to confuse enemies and gain an advantage.
Complementing their melee skills, each class wields a ranged weapon: Sellswords use bows, Knights rely on crossbows, and Assassins throw daggers. Players start the game with a limited four shots, but players can discover ammo caches throughout the overworld to replenish them. As characters progress, they can unlock upgrades to increase their maximum capacity. These weapons, however, all functionally do the same thing: deal damage to enemies from afar.
In combat, players can dodge, block, parry, and chain together quick and heavy attacks to execute combos. Each class also has a set of skills that consume a mana-like resource called Rage. This is readily replenished by attacking enemies.
Stealth is also a key mechanic in the game. Players may choose to bypass or eliminate enemies in strongholds and bandit camps through concealed approaches and executions.
Moreover, the game incorporates cooperative multiplayer elements, where players team up in real-time to tackle larger beasts and creatures from the Game of Thrones universe, like the cockatrice, griffin, unicorn, and more. By defeating these threats together, they can earn substantial rewards and craft high-end gear.
Kingsroad also features a vast open world encompassing the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Players can explore iconic locations from the show such as King’s Landing, Winterfell, and Castle Black, as well as lesser-known areas like White Harbor and the Stormlands. These areas are populated with various puzzles and side quests that players can solve to earn rewards.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Story Plot
Set within the established timeline of Game of Thrones' fourth season, Kingsroad introduces players to an original narrative. Players assume the role of a bastard from the lesser Northern House Tyre, navigating a personal journey intertwined with the larger conflicts of Westeros. These conflicts include the struggle for the Iron Throne, the encroaching threat of the White Walkers, and the complex web of alliances and rivalries among the various factions. Players will encounter and interact with recognizable characters like Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen, whose influence may impact the player's journey.
