Kyurem’s Two Alternate Forms Making a Debut

Last December 2024, Pokemon GO announced that the Unova Tour would launch in February 2025 with details about obtainable Pokemon, rewards, and others. This time, Niantic updated the event’s details, revealing the official debut of Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, and Shiny Meloetta.

On February 21-23, 2025, participants at the New Taipei City, Taiwan, and Los Angeles, USA, will have the opportunity to catch and fuse Kyurem into its Black and White version. To catch base Kyurem, participants must defeat Black or White Kyurem in five-star raids.

After catching a Kyurem, players can now fuse it with either Zekrom or Reshiram, depending on their preference. Fusing Kyurem also unlocks new attacks, such as Freeze Shock (Black) and Ice Burn (White). Here is the rundown for the fusion requirements:

⚫︎ Black Kyurem - 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Zekrom Candy
⚫︎ White Kyurem - 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Reshiram Candy

Participants can collect Fusion Energies by defeating Black or White Kyurem in raids. If players want to revert Kyurem to its base form, it will not cost any Fusion Energy or Candy. Moreover, players have a higher chance of catching Shiny Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom during the event.

Those who cannot participate in the in-person event at New Taipei City and Los Angeles will have their chance on March 1-2, 2025. The event is called Pokemon GO Tour: Unova - Global and requires no ticket, meaning it’s free for all players.

Meloetta, the “Melody Pokemon,” Also Takes the Stage

Aside from Kyurem’s alternate forms, a Shiny Meloetta is coming to Pokemon GO for the first time. Ticket-holding players attending the in-person event at either location can complete a Masterwork Research, eventually leading to an encounter with this Pokemon.

Though the in-person event is only three days, the Masterwork Research does not expire, so players can leisurely finish each step at their own pace.

Iconic Legendaries from Pokemon Black and White 2

Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Meloetta first debuted in Pokemon Black and White. This is the fifth generation of Pokemon’s mainline games featuring the Unova region. The first three can be obtained during the latter part of the main story, while the last is automatically acquired after finishing it.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Black and White 2 introduced alternate forms of Kyurem, depending on the version. Similar to their Pokemon GO counterparts, the alternate forms can learn Ice Burn and Freeze Shock.

With the Tao Trio’s alternate forms debuting in Pokémon GO for a limited time in February and globally in March, players can now fully experience the wonders of Unova.
