Pokémon Legends: Z-A Gameplay
Iterates Over the Realtime Battles of Legends Arceus
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an open-world adventure RPG predecessor that brings over numerous mechanics from its predecessor, Pokemon Legends Arceus. It will feature open-world gameplay where players will be able to spot wild Pokemon out and about, contary to invisibly encountering them through random encounters in mainline games. Battles will be on a real-time basis within open areas that will allow the trainers and their Pokemon to move about the battlefield, executing close-range and projectile moves from afar to hit opposing Pokemon.
Just like in previous games, players can choose to play as a boy or a girl. This time, the adventure takes place entirely within Lumiose City. During the day, Trainers can explore the bustling city streets and venture into wild zones, where they might encounter powerful Alpha Pokémon. When night falls, the excitement continues with the Z-A Royale—an intense battle competition where players fight to climb the ranks and take on even stronger Trainers. Along the way, players can also team up with Team MZ, a group dedicated to keeping Lumiose City safe.
Spot Wild Pokemon in Wild Zones!
As the game will be set within the city limits of Lumiose, there will be designated Wild Zones scattered across the city where Pokemon will be able to roam free. Players approach any wild Pokemon they wish and attempt to catch them by throwing Pokeballs. Trainers can raise their chances of capture by bringing out their own companion Pokemon to battle and weaken the wild ones.
Mega-Evolutions Make a Mega Return!

Additionally, Mega Evolution has been teased as a returning mechanic. Trainers can make certain Pokemon hold onto their respective Mega Stones, and when paired with their own Trainer Key Stone bracelets, will allow the Pokemon to undergo Mega Evolutions during battle in real time. Mega Evolving will drastically transform the Pokemon's appearances, as well as boost stats, change abilities, and even alter types.
Rogue Mega Evolution

In addition, a new threat looms over the city—Rogue Mega Evolutions. These are wild Pokémon that have begun Mega Evolving on their own, causing chaos across Lumiose. As part of Team MZ, players will investigate these mysterious outbreaks and take on these rampaging Pokémon in intense battles. Defeating them not only helps restore peace but also rewards players with Mega Stones, unlocking powerful new evolutions for their own team.
Climb Up the Ranks in Z-A Royale!
Trainers can enter the Z-A Royale, a tournament where you rank up through unique real-time Pokémon battles. If another trainer spots you, they’ll head straight for a battle—but you can also sneak up on unsuspecting opponents and strike from behind to gain the upper hand.
Join Team MZ

Just like in Pokemon Arceus where you joined Galaxy Team as a Survey Corps member, in this game you'll be either invited by friends Urbain and Taunie to join Team MZ a team tasked to eeping Lumiose City a peaceful place. Team MZ includes members like Naveen, a upcoming fashion designer and her pokemon Scraggy, and Lida a inspiring dancer who with her partener staru
Pokémon Research Lab Returns!

The Pokémon Research Lab will have an even bigger role to play in your journey to becoming the top dog of the Z-A Royale. Mable, the acting director of Lumiose City’s Pokémon Research Lab, will be enlisting your help for her research. Catch different Pokémon found in Lumiose City and receive a wealth of rewards in exchange, such as Technical Machines (TMs) and Hidden Machines (HMs) to make your Pokémon even stronger.
Experience Link Battles Like Never Before in the Z-A Battle Club
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is introducing a new way to experience Link Battles with the Z-A Battle Club, a real-time 4-player clash where the player with the most Pokémon taken down in 3 minutes wins! Players can clash with each other in a massive battle royale combat scenario where they can also sit back and strategize before striking, or just jump right into the fight and reign supreme.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Story

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will star new Pokemon trainers as they arrive to the transforming city of Lumiose. The metropolis is currently undergoing a major reconstruction in order to provide a harmonious environment wherein humans and Pokemon can live together seamlessly. The company leading the renovations are headed by Quasartico Inc., headed by its CEO Jett, and her secretary Vinnie. Players will travel through the bustling city alongside their new friend and potential rival Urbain(M) or Taunie(F).
It has yet to be outright confirmed during what timeline Z-A will take place in the Kalos region's history, but the game's latest trailer confirms the appearance of the mysterious AZ, who looks to be the frontman of the hotel players will be staying. AZ is also accompanied by their partner Floette. The appearance of the two bring into question if Z-A takes place in the past, the future, or in an alternate timeline, due the conflicting events and technology in XY and Z-A's trailers.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Setting
The game takes place entirely within the sprawling cityscape of Lumiose City, the centerpiece of the Kalos region.
