Metaphor: ReFantazio Manga Chapter 1 Out Now!

View Will’s Story Drawn In Manga Form

Metaphor fans are in for a treat as the first chapter of the official Metaphor: ReFantazio manga makes its debut on the MANGA Plus’ website, available to read for free. Atlus partnered up with manga publisher Shueisha to release the official Metaphor: ReFantazio manga, which is illustrated by Japanese manga author Yōichi Amano (Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden, Stealth Symphony).

In comparison to the video game’s original plot, the manga instead takes on some creative liberties and significantly alters the opening timeline. Some notable changes in the first chapter include the removal of a certain beginning story area, as well as introducing new events that never occurred in-game while restructuring others, such as how the protagonist encounters his allies. Additionally, the protagonist's name is now canonically confirmed to be Will as per the manga, supporting the default name given by the game.

The manga’s next update is slated to live on February 19th and will be simultaneously updated with the Japanese release.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus’ newest IP and is developed by Studio Zero, a game development studio helmed by Katsura Hashino, director and producer of Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. It follows the protagonist (default name Will) and his fairy companion Gallica in the United Kingdom of Euchronia on a mission to save the kingdom’s prince from a certain cursed death.

However, the king has been assassinated, leaving the land in chaos and disarray with no ruler to lead. To combat this, the late king executes his dying wish—to leave the kingdom in the hands of a leader chosen by the people. Thus, the protagonist finds himself swept up in its events, something bigger than he has ever thought possible.

The game sold over one million copies worldwide on its first day of launch, making it Atlus’ fastest-selling title, beating out Persona 3: Reload which was released in early 2024. Afterward, it went on to receive an incredibly positive reception, bagging high scores across the board and being awarded several accolades, such as Best RPG, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative in the 2024 The Game Awards.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available to play on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X|S.
