Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!

This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real

Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin

Following the news about the cake that sparked speculations, Hollow Knight fans can now rest easy knowing that the game is at least confirmed to be real and in active development, as shared by Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head Matthew "Leth" Griffin. He took to X (Twitter) to respond to a fan pleading for even a sliver of hope that Silksong is still definitely in the works.

For context, Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen suddenly changed his X (Twitter) profile picture to that of a cake, to which eagle-eyed fans took as a sign of something related to its sequel, Silksong. Subsequently, this has fueled rumors of a Silksong ARG or announcement that it will be on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a YouTuber known as fireb0rn reached out to Griffin to see if all the commotion was true—and unfortunately, he found out that the Hollow Knight creator’s tweet was "a nothingburger." It was a harmless profile picture change, and nothing more, nothing less. "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie," fireb0rn tweeted.

But fear not! Griffin still fanned the flames once again, reconfirming that "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This is the first time in a year and a half that the team has updated fans about the status of Silksong.

Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History

First revealed in February 2019 and originally slated for release in the first half of 2023, Team Cherry announced in May 2023 that the game was postponed as the game has "gotten quite big" and that they wanted to further improve upon the game. They previously shared that Silksong will take players to a brand new kingdom, feature nearly 150 new enemies, and have an all-new difficulty level called Silk Soul mode. It’s nearing two years since the delay, and they finally break their silence, no matter how small the update is.

However, the news was met with lukewarm responses, with one side eagerly anticipating more concrete details about the game and thanking Griffin for their service, replying with encouraging messages and that they shouldn’t let outside pressure stress them out. Those on the other side have begun to grow impatient after almost six years of waiting, unsatisfied with the "bare minimum" that Team Cherry is giving for the highly-anticipated title.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and will follow the princess-protector of Hallownest, Hornet on her epic journey across an unfamiliar world as she undertakes a deadly pilgrimage to reach the kingdom’s peak. While there is no release window as of writing, be sure to stay tuned for more updates and announcements!
