Hollow Knight Fans’ Hope for Silksong Reignited

By a Twitter Post and a Piece of Cake

Hollow Knight fans entered the world of speculation again due to one of the game's creators, William Pellen, and his Twitter (X) activity the day before and during the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen posted on Twitter (X) that "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This probably hints at the leaked Switch 2 reveal on the 16th of January. The usual question about Silksong’s release ensued, but Pellen’s next move fueled more fan speculation.

On January 16, 2025, Switch 2’s announcement revealed an upcoming direct release on April 2, 2025. One fan noticed that Pellen changed his profile to a slice of cake that day. Upon doing a reverse image search, it was found that the picture belongs to an article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe by Bon Appetit. Most importantly, it was published on April 2, 2024.

Pellen also commented on that article and mentioned "mmmm tasty," where dedicated fans spent their time reviewing the cake and included comments about silksong. One fan even dared that "if we get real silksong news by april 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Meanwhile, another fan gave a review, "Loved the silky texture. This goes direct ly in my favourite recipes," linking the game and Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

It should be noted that there is no way to confirm if Pellen is the one who actually commented on the cake recipe’s article. However, Pelle’s profile picture on Twitter (X) is undeniable, and he is actually hinting at something, but that something might be nothing at all.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Image

Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced on February 14, 2019, and was planned to be released on platforms like Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This game is a sequel to Hollow Knight and follows the adventures of Hornet in a new kingdom ruled by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry previewed Hollow Knight’s soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. After this update, the development team went radio silent for more than two years.

They broke the silence in February 2022, as Pellen assured fans that the game was still in development and stated that reveals and other important information would be shared once Silksong got closer to its release date. By June of the same year, Team Cherry released another trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showing new gameplay footage and announcing that the game would be available on Game Pass once launched.

Though it is anticipated to be released in 2023, Team Cherry’s representative Matthew Griffin confirmed in May 2023 that the game will be delayed. "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing," Matthew explained. "We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

After more than five years, Hollow Knight’s fanbase is still strong, with many participating in community forums, searching for any piece of information about Silksong. However, not much was provided about the game after its delay announcement aside from the fact that the devs are still working on it.
