Ananta Gameplay
Ananta offers unparalleled freedom, blending the urban chaos of Grand Theft Auto, the adrenaline-pumping hand-to-hand combat of Sleeping Dogs, and the bonkers side missions and activities of the Yakuza series. The game is centered around doing story missions that take its various cast members into various scenarios: some dangerous, some wacky.
Movement and Exploration
Players can explore Nova City by running around or riding vehicles, such as firetrucks, boats, and helicopters. Each character has their own set of abilities, with some giving them more navigational options than the standard set of movement. Notably, the player character, the Captain, can grapple, swing, parkour, and wall-run along skyscrapers, similar to the system seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel, Spider-Man 2.
The world features multiple sprawling cities with destructible environments, each with unique districts such as shopping areas, beaches, and amusement parks. The developers confirmed that future updates of the game will add new regions while also expanding on the existing ones.
Recreational Activities
There is a vast number of recreational activities that players can partake in Ananta. Players can go on dates with other characters, attend nightclubs, scroll through social media, purchase cars and clothes, play basketball, fight in slapping contests, go to the gym, take in-game selfies, and dance with citizens.
GTA 5-Style Character Swapping
Players control one character at a time and can swap between them through the in-game phone menu. When switching to another character, the game will soar through the map GTA 5-style and over to the selected character’s current location, where they’ll be shown in the middle of an activity, like riding a car or taking selfies with citizens.
There are certain missions where it will be necessary to swap to a character to assist another. In one mission, an unarmed Captain is surrounded by three gunmen, and will call on Richie to snipe them down from a helicopter.
Character Outfits
Characters can mix and match clothing options of their choosing. So far, it has been revealed that players can purchase various tops, pants, footwear, accessories (gloves, wristbands, necklaces, and glasses), and headwear.
All characters can visit shops selling apparel and preview them before making a purchase. Outfits are tied to certain fictional in-game brands, such as Flexetic.
Male and Female MC
Players will be able to choose between playing as a male or female main character, who is referred to in-game as the Captain. Lead producer Qiyang (Ash Qi) confirmed that the female main character will be in the final game; they simply have yet to officially reveal her design in the latest footage.
Sleeping Dogs-Style Melee Combat
Ananta mainly employs a hand-to-hand combat system, akin to the action game Sleeping Dogs. Players can unleash combos on a singular target, with the option to seamlessly change to a different target.
Before an enemy can land an attack, the player can execute a parry and counterattack. They can also use the environment to their advantage and slam opponents into cars or dumpsters or even pick up solid objects on the ground as a weapon.
Abilities
Different characters have unique abilities that can influence their attacks. The Captain, for example, can use their symbiote-like abilities to slam multiple opponents to the ground, propel towards certain targets, and execute enhanced punches.
Other characters can employ their abilities for non-combative purposes, like Seymour, who can deploy a drone for espionage or hack billboards and jumbotrons
GTA-Style Weapons System
Players can use various weapons in Ananta and use a loadout system reminiscent of that seen in the GTA series. Players can switch from hand-to-hand combat to other weapons in their arsenal via a quick menu.
A few of the weapons include grenade launchers, assault rifles, flamethrowers, and grenades. Players can even pick up melee-oriented ones like hammers, cleavers, and golf clubs.
Ananta Story
Ananta’s story takes place over several characters’ perspectives. There are various wacky and/or dangerous scenarios, like facing off against a gang and their dangerous truck, saving hostages, hosting a recruitment screening for a superhero, snooping into a secret meeting, getting chased by idol fans, chasing a guy dressed in a hotdog suit, and more.
Ananta Setting
Ananta is set in the bustling metropolis, Nova City, an urban jungle teeming with all sorts of people engaging in beaches, parks, and shops. Nova City is currently caught up in a widespread gang war, with only the Nova City Crime Agency as its vanguard. Moreover, there are threats lurking in the city’s shadows, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
Ananta Plot
A task force known as the ACD appointed a new Captain, who, after just arriving in Nova City, found that it had already been disbanded. Much to the dismay of the Captain and another recruit, Taffy, it’s now up to them to rebuild the ACD, recruit more members, and take on odd and dangerous jobs.
Trouble quickly finds them, as the Captain is now being targeted by a gang called Maniac Chaos, after dealing with a traffic jam they caused. On top of that, the Captain’s already drawing so much attention to themself after blowing up on the internet for that incident.
