Ananta Overview
Ananta (previously Project Mugen) is an open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain under Thunder Fire Studio, a subsidiary of NetEase Games. It is marketed as a love letter to urban fantasies,
and combines fast-paced action with narrative-driven progression in a modern metropolitan setting. While Naked Rain’s portfolio is still small, the publisher NetEase is a major player in the gaming industry with titles under their belt like Naraka: Bladepoint.
The game is set in a vibrant, interactive city teeming with life, with scenes ranging from busy commuters to stray animals and even traffic accidents players can cause to give it a sense of realism. Players can explore the urban landscape using a plethora of methods, including driving vehicles, parkour, and even grappling hooks reminiscent of Marvel’s Spider-Man. The combat, meanwhile, blends elements of traditional mobile action RPGs with unique character abilities, with some characters allowing for third-person shooting mechanics. Ananta also promises destructible environments, arcade mini-games, and seamless exploration of interconnected cityscapes inspired by global cultures.
Players assume the role of an Investigator tasked with researching a supernatural affliction known as Chaos alongside a diverse cast of characters, each with their own intertwined narratives. Announced under its original name Project Mugen in 2023, the game’s first promotional video immediately garnered widespread attention, amassing thousands of pre-registrations within minutes.

Ananta Gameplay
Ananta is an open world adventure game that offers dynamic combat, seamless exploration, and a variety of interactive features. Players control a party of up to four characters, each with unique abilities, allowing for strategic combinations in battle. But while the combat resembles traditional mobile action RPGs, unique mechanics such as third-person shooter elements and destructible environments across multiple, massive cities add variety and novelty to the formula.
To aid the player in exploring Ananta's massive metropolitan areas, the game provides tools such as grappling hooks, wall-running, and drivable vehicles. The interactive and destructible cityscapes encourage players to climb, smash, and navigate with freedom. Players can even enter certain buildings freely to engage with the environment within.
Other features include mini-games, arcade, stray animal interactions, and a dynamic day-night cycle influencing NPC behavior. The first major city, Nova Inception Urbs, offers over 10 distinct areas alone, like beaches and shopping districts, with additional cities unlocking as players progress.
