Kaiju No. 8: The Game Gameplay
Kaiju No. 8: The Game is a turn-based RPG. Players form a defense team and select skills to attack hulking kaijus in battles. The core gameplay loop involves exposing a monster’s weak point—the "core"—to deliver a powerful finishing blow with a super-powered special move. Although the controls are described as simple, battles are designed to require a high level of strategy.
Players can freely organize a platoon of four characters in "Unit Formation," with success hinging on the squad’s composition, abilities, and weapons. Characters who share a "buddy" relationship can trigger follow-up attacks during battles.
Playable characters confirmed so far include Kafka Hibino, Mina Ashiro, Reo Ichikawa, and more. Like in the manga, each character is expected to have different combat styles and weapons; for instance, Mina uses heavy artillery. Kafka’s ability to transform into a Kaiju also appears to play a key role in the gameplay.
Progression includes leveling up characters, raising their parameters, and unlocking potential through "Limit Breaks," "Awakening," and "Skill Strengthening." Weapons can also be enhanced to further boost their overall combat power.
Kaiju No. 8: The Game Story
Kaiju No. 8: The Game will include three story modes:
⚫︎ The Main Story, which may present an original narrative within the same universe;
⚫︎ Reminiscence Story, which will follow the plot of the original manga and anime; and
⚫︎ Character Story, which focuses on each member of the team.
Kaiju No. 8 manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. Here, the world is plagued by giant monsters known as Kaiju. Here, Japan has established the Defense Force, a military organization tasked with eliminating these threats. After failing the Defense Force entrance exam multiple times, Kafka Hibino resigns himself to working for a professional Kaiju cleanup crew. However, when a parasitic Kaiju enters his body, he is granted the ability to transform into the same monsters that are threatening humanity. This transformation dubs him "Kaiju No. 8" by the Defense Force, who now see him as a threat.
