Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader First Impressions
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader is the franchise’s first ever CRPG, and fans are super excited to see how Owlcat Games adapt the Warhammer universe to the CRPG format. With the Warhanmmer lore being so vast, it’s great that they made the combat system similar to XCOM, Wasteland, and the Fallout Tactics series as the characters in the franchise have unique characters and even more various weaponry. The Warhammer 40K franchise also features wildly varying locales and themes which will be explored in the game. As a Warhammer noob with minimal exposure to the franchise myself, I’m excited to see the different sectors, planets, and designs that the game has to offer. The game has also been playable in Beta Access since June 1, 2023 if you pre-ordered the game through their website. As a Rogue Trader, you must gather your crew of psykers, marksmen, and warriors to travel through the vast and perilous Koronus expanse to explore and seek profit for the Imperium of Man. Make a multitude of decisions either staying faithful to the God-Emperor or make alliances with the enemies of Mankind in this world where your actions and choices matter.

With Owlcat at the helm, it’s no surprise that it will have similar gameplay to their previous titles, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, as those games are CRPGs as well. The game will have different dialogues and your choices will affect the different outcomes of the game’s events.The game’s combat mechanics lean heavily on its cover system and each character’s characteristics. Each character has their own specialty and weapon, which you can use to address and showcase their strengths in each of the numerous combat scenarios in the game.
