Everything We Know About No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked Story Plot

King Harol has died in the year 841, and next in line is his son, Magnus, whose notoriety of being inexperienced yet arrogant precedes him.

The kingdom has but a few moments to mourn, as the Pestilence– an unholy plague long ago forgotten for a thousand years– has returned. It spreads across the land, corrupting and destroying all things that come into contact. However, an ambitious and ruthless figure from the church named Madrigal Seline sees this as an opportunity to prove herself in the eyes of her god.

You will play as one of the mystical holy warriors with remarkable powers called the Cerim, who have pledged their allegiance to fend off and eliminate the Pestilence no matter what the cost. However, with all of these powerful figures in play, from foolish royalty to determined worshippers, you will be entangled and pulled across every direction, even when you all share the same goal of eradicating the Pestilence.

No Rest for the Wicked Gameplay

No Rest for the Wicked is a top-down action-RPG with the graceful "hand-painted" art style Moon Studios is known for. The world will not be procedurally generated, and will instead be carefully handcrafted to be dense and populated, perfect for awe and exploration. Though the world isn’t random, the loot you can find is, allowing for different experiences for different players.

The combat is heavily reliant on watching for meticulous timings and reactions, as during development, the developers prioritized the weight behind all the animations first. All enemy attacks are visibly telegraphed, allowing players to see, think, and react smoothly. As with most fighting mechanics that implement perfect timings, you can parry your enemies’ attacks at precise moments leaving them stunned and open for counterattacks.

There will be four types of gear in the game, where worst to best is White, Blue, Purple, and Gold. The developers, however, do not want a ‘worst’ tier of gear to exist, and so have made each tier unique. White-tier gear are the most customizable, Blue-tier gear are rarer and have positive enchantments, Purple-tier gear have more powerful positive enchantments but will carry one negative enchantment, and Gold-tier gear are the most special unique items, handmade by the game designers and acquired only through special means.

Lastly, the developers share what the early access roadmap will look like after its release, where they plan to eventually implement multiplayer and other further content updates to the game.
