Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 wins the Best Narrative category, proving its mettle among a host of other narrative heavy-hitters such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Silent Hill f. Clair Obscur’s lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, discovered director Guillaume Broche’s Reddist post looking for voice actors and was cast before she eventually progressed into her current role during development.

Svedberg-Yen had previously stated that one of their core objectives in writing Clair Obscur’s narrative was to never "overexplain" story elements and let the players piece them together.

Clair Obscur takes after the Belle Époque movement style, presenting a world that is decaying yet elegant and surreal. The art director behind the title is Nicholas Maxson-Francombe, who previously did concept art for stage shows.

Battlefield 6 wins Best Audio Design in The Game Awards 2025

Winner: Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 and its developer, Battlefield Studios, win Best Audio Design, going against a couple of heavy hitters like Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yotei, and NeoBards Entertainment’s Silent Hill f.

Nate Iske is the Audio Director for Battlefield 6, who has also worked as a sound designer for multiple games, such as the previous Battlefield entries, 2042, V, and 1. He also worked on Godfall, Freedom Finger, as well as other TV series and shorts.

Jennifer English, who plays Maelle from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, takes the trophy for the Best Performance category. She managed to win against her fellow co-stars Charlie Cox and Benn Starr, Erika Ishii from Ghost of Yotei, Konatsu Kato from Silent Hill f, and Troy Baker from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The actress stepped up to the stage to receive her award while delivering a message of gratitude to the gaming community. English previously acted in other video game roles such as Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Wuthering Waves. She is also playing as the protagonist Gwendolyn of the upcoming 2026 game, Tides of Annihilation.

This title went toe-to-toe with other games that pushed the video game medium beyond its limits to be playable to more audiences, such as Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Atomfall, EA Sports FC 26, and South of Midnight. DOOM: The Dark Ages lets players adjust their experience by customizing the game’s overall difficulty, damage dealt to enemies and the player, projectile speed, enemy aggression, parry window, daze duration, game speed, and resource drops. Players, no matter the skill level, can play the game their way, whether by making their DOOM: The Dark Ages experience easier or harder.

Mario Kart World races past the competition and wins this year’s Best Sports/Racing category. The game is pitted against its rival kart racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, along with sim racer, F1 25, multiplayer football game, Rematch, and EA Sports FC 26.

Mario Kart World was developed to be a completely different experience from previous titles in the series from the beginning of its development, according to game producer Kosuke Yabuki. The game takes the series’ traditional kart racing formula into a new open world for the first time, which led it to stand out not just in contrast to other Mario Kart titles but also other racers in the genre.

Fans across the globe had been anticipating the next Grand Theft Auto title years before Rockstar Games even confirmed that they were working on the eighth mainline entry in 2022.
