Devolver Digital Continues to Troll Gearbox CEO
While Borderlands 4 is inching closer to its release date, developer Devolver Digital continues to troll Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford for his earlier comments. In a Twitter (X) post on July 10, Devolver Digital announced the early access launch of their online co-op shooter Mycopunk while taking a shot at Borderlands’ pricing.
Pitchford was in the heat among the community after he stated that the initially speculated $80 price point for Borderlands 4 was not a problem for "real fans." He has then apologized for his comments, but Devolver looks to continue poking the CEO.

It was previously reported that Borderlands 4 will be priced at $70, and Devolver said that fans can buy Mycopunk for 4.6x that amount. Devolver has previously taken a jab at Pitchford in an earlier tweet on May 21, where they said, "You're gonna be able to buy Mycopunk for you and three of your friends for the price of one copy of Borderlands 4."
Devolver has been known to take a unique and out-of-the-box approach to the game industry in general with their engaging (sometimes controversial) marketing and satirical posts on social media. They often produce unconventional and diverse games, supporting independent developers that may otherwise be lost in the crowded market. These games include the Hotline Miami series, the Serious Sam series, Enter the Gungeon, Katana Zero, and much more.
Although there is some kind of animosity between them, Borderlands 4 and Mycopunk share some similarities, with both being sci-fi shooters while having cel-shaded design. This tweet by Devolver may be a way to promote Mycopunk's early access launch, or just a direct jab at Pitchford and the overall increasing pricing of the latest releases.
First Official Character Short and Gameplay Overview for Vex
As the countdown for Borderlands 4’s release looms near, Gearbox will be rolling out character shorts during the lead-up to the game’s launch. To kick things off, Borderlands 4 introduced a new Vault Hunter that has a different take on the classic Siren class, Vex. Her character’s short highlighted her bloody backstory where she initially worked as a cashier when suddenly, she activated her Siren abilities and decided to escape the retail store.
Meanwhile, her gameplay overview gave fans a brief snippet of her skills and abilities, namely Incarnate, Dead Ringer, and Phase Phamiliar. Compared to previous Sirens that focused on crowd-control and support, Vex summons creatures such as Reapers, Spectres, and a giant spectral cat named "Trouble" that deal elemental damage.
Gearbox and 2K Games plan to deliver more character shorts and overview trailers in the coming weeks for the new Vault Hunters, such as Rafa, Amon, and Harlowe. Borderlands 4 is set to be released on September 12, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
