Borderlands 4 Weapon Manufacturer System Updates
More Opportunity for Surprise

The Borderlands series is best known for its robust weapon manufacturing system, and developer Gearbox continues to expand on this core mechanic for Borderlands 4. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Executive Producer Chris Brock stated that despite the previous title’s amazing weapon system, Borderlands 4 will create more surprises and customization.
"The way we've done guns before is great, but with the way we're doing it now there's more opportunity for surprise, " Brock said. He also noted that Borderlands 4’s new "licensed parts" feature behaviors from different manufacturers to appear in other guns.
Borderlands’ signature weapons system revolves around having unique brands that has its core characteristics and unique mechanics, making the looter-shooter mechanic easier to navigate through as players can easily identify weapons.

The game introduces three brand-new weapon manufacturers: Order, Ripper, and Daedalus. Additionally, previous manufacturers make their return, such as Jakobs, Maliwan, Tediore, Torque, and Vladof. Some brands, such as COV and Hyperion, are cut from the list, as, spoiler alert, leaders from those manufacturers were defeated in the previous title.
Gearbox has made it a priority to improve its weapons lineup, considering Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland had over 1 billion guns. GamesRadar+ spoke with Borderlands 4 Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson on February 1, where he explained the studio’s mindset in their continued focus on their weapon manufacturing system.
Nicholson stated that Gearbox is "always adding more guns, manufacturers, legendary weapons and opportunities for customization and player expression." He added, "Borderlands 4 will feature billions of weapons and accessories for players to acquire."
Free Hazard Pay Weapon Skin

To take the weapons-crazed game uip a notch, Borderlands 4 offers a free weapon skin ahead of its launch. Gearbox announced on Steam on June 28 that players will receive the Hazard Pay Weapon Skin when they subscribe to receive newsletters and digital marketing on their SHiFT account.
After subscribing, fans must link their SHiFT account to their preferred platform accounts. During the game’s launch, they must log in to Borderlands 4 using their SHiFT account to obtain the skin. Furthermore, any Borderlands email players receive may include a SHiFT code that may contain additional rewards.

Despite the game’s recent controversies regarding Gearbox CEO’s comments on its pricing, Borderlands 4 continues to ramp up towards its launch with all the new updates the developers have mentioned, such as a photo mode coming as a post-launch update, and its new comedic approach to match its serious setting.
Borderlands 4 is set to be released on September 12, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
