Best RPGs on PlayStation 5 For 2025

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Haru and Unsei

Since the inception of the PlayStation console, RPGs have been the most popular games in its arsenal. Franchises like Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Persona, Kingdom Hearts, and more have been some of the most iconic to grace the console in its different eras. But the question that’s relevant for today remains: what are the best RPGs for the PS5?

To answer this question, we at Game8 put together a list of the best RPGs for the PS5 since its release in 2020. The titles listed are memorable for different reasons, be it their visuals, narrative, gameplay, or whatever else that’s left a mark on us. These are the games that you don’t want to miss, especially if you’re an RPG fan.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stark reminder that RPGs, especially turn-based RPGs, will never go out of style. In what can already be considered as 2025’s biggest surprise, Sandfall Interactive was able to create a masterpiece in their first try.

Combat combines real-time action and classic JRPG style, where attacks engage you by pressing the necessary prompts to deal maximum damage. In defense, however, enemy attacks can either be parried or dodged, with the former rewarding you in the form of a counterattack when all attacks are parried.

It’s a rewarding system that gets better the more you know how to utilize it in your favor. With a well-realized story of fantasy, memorable characters, charming creatures, and compelling themes, the result is an RPG that challenges you and the genre by pushing the standards of turn-based gameplay.

Many Soulslikes, and many have succeeded to varying degrees. But The First Berserker: Khazan is a game that deserves its recognition. With a unique cel-shaded aesthetic combined with the bloody and brutal atmosphere of constant bloodshed, the dark fantasy anime vibes have never been portrayed as well as this.

The combat is as intense as it looks, offering a combo-heavy and fast-paced version of the familiar Soulslike combat formula, along with massive, cinematic boss fights to encapsulate the gameplay experience. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter serves as a strong reintroduction of the cult-classic JRPG series remade for current-generation systems. Originally released in Japan in 2004, it was not until 2011 that the game was localized for western audiences on the PSP. Aside from the game getting a full facelift from 2D to 3D, the remake also includes various quality-of-life improvements that make it the definitive entry point of the series.

With a group of likeable characters, a grounded narrative, and one of the most innovative hybrid action and turn-based battle systems for a JRPG, it's one of those titles that you won't regret trying out, especially since you've seen it on the shelf for a long time. The best part? You have something to look forward to after playing the remake, since the next two chapters are already in the works.
