In this new entry of Shiren the Wanderer, Shiren and Koppa have just concluded their adventure in Tsukikage Village from the 1996 title "Shiren the Wanderer GB: Monster of Moonlight Village." During their travels, they get word of tremendous pirate gold being hoarded by a terrifying monster in the depths of Serpentcoil Island. However, on their way, they both experience the similar dream of a girl pleading for help from inside a monster’s belly.
Now, filled with a sense of duty and a desire to investigate, rescue, and take their own share of the wealth, Shiren and Koppa adventure to Serpentcoil Island where they’ll meet a colorful cast of characters who also desire to defeat the monster and retrieve the treasure.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is a rogue-like dungeon crawler adventure game, bringing back the classic Mystery Dungeon gameplay Spike Chunsoft is most known for. Shiren will enter an ever-changing dungeon with different layouts and random monsters and items. Pick up weapons lying around, defeat monsters, and advance to the depths of the mystery dungeon!
Needless to say, Shiren will no doubt fall in battle again and again, but players need not feel bad because it’s part of the experience. After falling during your adventures, you will be transported back to the start, losing all your progress and resetting the dungeon. However, a standard for Mystery Dungeon games, there will be an option to seek rescue from other players in order for you to continue your progress from where you fell! The newest title will also have the special feature to rescue yourself!
Speaking of falling and resetting, fret not about your failures and think ahead, as your adventures were not in vain. Each run will record all monsters you encountered and weapons you wielded. Look through your Adventure Log records and use your knowledge to better prepare for the next!
