Everything We Know About DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO Story Plot

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO will most likely loosely retell the plot of the Dragon Ball story. No footage from the original Dragon Ball series has been shown, so instead it will be safe to assume that it will have stories from Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball Super. The trailers briefly show Bergamo from the Tournament of Power arc and Broly from his standalone movie, so the game might feature story beats up to the Broly arc.

No manga-exclusive character from the Moro arc and beyond has appeared in any footage as of writing.

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO Gameplay

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO will be a 3d fighting game reminiscent of the classic Budokai Tenkaichi series. Not much of the gameplay systems have been revealed, but extensive gameplay footage can be seen where Goku and Vegeta fight through the skies, trading blows and firing off Ki blasts in a series of exhilarating battles. If Sparking! ZERO can implement at least the base gameplay mechanics of its predecessors, it will no doubt become a very flashy and action-heavy game.

In line with the developers' aims to recreate the most immersive DRAGON BALL experience, they've implemented environmental effects that change depending on the battle's progress. These range from the weather's dynamicism to destructible buildings and terrain.

On the multiplayer side, the game will feature online multiplayer and offline singleplayer modes. Local split-screen multiplayer, however, can be played, but only on the Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage.

Episode Battle

Image

Players can choose between eight iconic characters and relive beloved events from the anime series. Each stage starts with an introduction to ease players into the scenario before they are thrown into the fights. The number of stages depends on the character, with Goku having the most.

Certain stages are even animated in the character's point of view, allowing players to experience the scenes from a never-before-seen perspective. There are even moments where players can diverge from the anime's events by making a different choice from what should transpire.

Custom Battle

Image

Experience entirely original scenarios with your favorite DRAGON BALL characters in this mode. Unlike other modes, the goals in Custom Battle differ for some battles. This allows for a fresh gameplay experience for players and allow for more creativity. Players can even edit the scenarios themselves, including the characters that appear in it and the cutscenes that play. These custom scenarios can also be uploaded for the world to experience in an online pool.

June 6, 2024 Update

The game's PlayStation Store listing has been updated to seemingly include local multiplayer, denoted by the "1-2 players" icon in its features! This could very well hint at the game supporting the fan-favorite feature of couch co-op/versus that many have loved since the first DB games!
