The trailer for The Pathless was first shown at The Game Awards 2018, featuring in-depth and action-centered gameplay. The Pathless was developed by Giant Squid, the same team who created Abzu, an aquatic adventure adventure game with a great aesthetic, so we can expect to see similar gorgeous sceneries in The Pathless.
Play as an Archer
As shown in the trailer, you'll play as an archer who must find a way to defeat the Godslayer to save the island. The protagonist is accompanied by an eagle, which can help the player glide, assist in battles, and manipulate certain parts of the environment to solve puzzles.
Puzzles Set in a Vast Open World
There are many exploration based puzzles in The Pathless, and you will need to rely on your fast mobility and your eagle's ability to glide and manipulate objects in the environment to reach collectibles.
This game's open world is full of things to find, so you'll have to be on the lookout for puzzles to solve as you progress through the game.
Multi-Stage Boss Fights
Boss encounters consist of two stages: a hunting phase, and head to head combat stage.
In the first phase, you will need to keep up your momentum by shooting the diamond-shaped icons as often as possible to get close enough to shoot weakpoints on the boss to move to the next phase. From there you'll enter a more straight forward boss fight. This definitely elevates the boss fights in this game, making each one feel memorable.
Is The Pathless Worth Buying?
Buy If The Short Clear Time Doesn't Bother You
Despite the large open world, The Pathless is a rather short game due to its straightforward storyline. The game offers great visuals and satisfying gameplay, but we can see how the short runtime may turn some people away. If you don't mind shorter games and plan on replaying this title mutliple times, then we recommend this game for you.
If you decide to buy the game, you are in for an adventure with the great sound design, art direction, and fluid movement. Plus you can pet the eagle for as long as you want. Who wouldn't pay for that?
