Key Features Detailed Ahead of Launch
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream now has a free demo on Nintendo Switch, with a newly released trailer highlighting its expanded customization and social systems ahead of launch. Players can start building their island early and carry that progress over to the full release on April 16, 2026.
The demo allows players to create up to three Miis and includes a hamster costume that can be unlocked after completing the demo. Both the Miis and the costume carry over to the full game, allowing progress to continue seamlessly at launch. However, the costume will also be obtainable in the full release, so skipping the demo won’t lock players out of any content.

The recently released overview trailer shows updated Mii creation tools, with both a guided "Get Help" and "From Scratch" option. "Get Help" generates a character based on answers to questions about desired traits, such as face shape and hairstyle, while "From Scratch" lets players select individual features from the available options. The trailer also shows a face paint tool that lets players add extra features using stamps or draw them directly onto Miis.
As with previous Tomodachi Life titles, players can respond to Miis’ requests, such as providing food or adjusting their living spaces, while shaping their personalities by giving them quirks and catchphrases. As more residents move in, relationships develop over time, progressing from friendships to romance and family life. A more direct way of introducing Miis is also shown, allowing players to initiate interactions instead of waiting for them to occur on their own.
Island Customization Upgrades

Island customization is also expanded compared to earlier entries like Tomodachi Life on Nintendo 3DS, which offered limited control over the island layout. In the upcoming title, buildings can be placed and rearranged as new facilities appear. Tools like "Quick Build" assist with developing the island more efficiently, while "Palette House" introduces a new level of creativity by allowing players to design custom items such as food, clothing, structures, and even pets to decorate the island.
The game also includes local wireless features, allowing players to connect with others to share Miis and items created through "Palette House." The trailer also shows up to eight Miis living together in the same home, adding new interaction dynamics between residents.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches on April 16, 2026, for Nintendo Switch and will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2. For more information about the game, check out our article below.
