Launches Fall 2026
Village in the Shade, known as Honogurashi no Niwa in Japan, is set to release in Fall 2026 for Western territories. As revealed in NIS America’s announcement trailer, the game will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
This upcoming title blends cozy life and farming-sim mechanics with a dark, unsettling atmosphere, effectively a mixture of Stardew Valley and Nippon Ichi Software’s Yomawari: Night Alone.
Set in the secluded mountain village of Kagatsu, players are tasked with maintaining a homestead, growing seasonal crops, and building relationships with the local townsfolk through traditional activities like cherry blossom viewing and home decoration.
However, this homey facade is governed by a set of strict, supernatural taboos: residents must never speak to strangers, leave the village boundaries, or venture outside after the sun sets.
The gameplay experience is defined by this duality, shifting from a bright, hand-painted aesthetic during the day to a tense, survival-focused environment at night. Players who break the village's rules will encounter terrifying "Phantoms" and sudden supernatural threats.
For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, the game includes a "Safe Livelihood Mode," allowing players to focus entirely on the farming and social mechanics without the looming threat of the village’s darker side.
Limited Edition Pre-Orders Now Open
Following the game’s release date announcement, NIS America has opened pre-orders for the Limited Edition. Fans can place their orders through the NIS America Online Store for $89.99, which includes the following:
