Tesla has announced that it will no longer support Steam games on its latest Model S and Model X vehicles.
Steam Games Will be Unplayable on New Tesla Vehicles
Buyers Are Prompted If They Want to Proceed with Car Delivery
According to news and commentary site Electrek, the automotive company Tesla had heavily invested in integrating video games into its in-car entertainment system, with Steam regarded as one of the most ambitious parts of Tesla's initiative, allowing users to play games while the car was in park or charging.
Tesla's decision was revealed through a message sent to new buyers, which stated, "Tesla is updating the gaming computer in your Model X and your vehicle is no longer capable of playing Steam games. All other entertainment and app functionalities are unaffected."
Tesla CEO Elon Musk had previously promoted the integration of Steam as a major selling point, highlighting its car’s machine GPU's capability to handle top-tier games like Cyberpunk 2077. Moreover, Tesla has not clarified whether it intends to extend Steam support to other models such as the Model Y and Model 3 or completely drop Steam support in all vehicle lines.

In late 2022, Tesla launched its Steam Beta native app in new Model S and Model X vehicles. The Steam support enabled users to play a range of games on the car’s display. There was no official explanation for why this functionality is being dropped, apart from explaining that certain car models will be unable to play Steam games with Tesla's update to the car models.
However, it is understood that existing owners of the affected vehicles will not be affected by this change. A message shared by a Reddit user showed that Tesla's notification to new buyers includes a confirmation button to proceed with the delivery of their new car.
