God of War 20th Anniversary Celebration Details Revealed
God of War Ragnarök Free Update with Dark Odyssey Collection
PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio announced on PlayStation.Blog on March 14, 2025 that God of War will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary this March 22 with a free update, events, and exclusive merchandise up for sale. Starting off the festivities, God of War Ragnarök will offer a free update that includes the Dark Odyssey collection.
Santa Monica Studio Lead Community Manager Grace Orlady shared the details of the upcoming free update. According to her, the collection is based on classic games from the series. Orlady stated, "Inspired by the working name of God of War (2005) and the skin that originally appeared in God of War II as a reward for beating the game on God Mode difficulty, we are bringing the classic black and gold theme for the 20th anniversary."

Players can use the "Edit Appearance" feature on these components, where they can choose the visual aesthetic they want while retaining the functionality they prefer for their builds. All these items will be available on the upcoming patch on March 20 and can be accessed from any Lost Items chest in the base game or automatically while in Valhalla.
20th Anniversary Fan Kit and Gallery Nucleus Exhibition
Fans of the franchise can celebrate by using the social media asset collection provided by PlayStation in the blog post. These include banners, icons, desktop/mobile wallpapers, and more. There will also be upcoming anniversary-themed items added to the Steam Points Shop for PC players and free anniversary-themed PlayStation Network Avatar available on March 20.
Additionally, PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio have partnered with Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles, California, to have a live exhibit featuring artwork and memorabilia from God of War from the past 20 years. The exhibition began on March 15 and will last until March 23.
During its opening reception, God of War held an anniversary panel with developers where they also signed merch. Fans who missed out on this panel will have the opportunity to attend the cast panel with signing on March 22. More details are available on Gallery Nucleus’s official website.
20th Anniversary Merchandise
An exclusive two-volume retrospective book set detailing the 20-year development of the God of War series will be available for pre-order on March 17. This features interviews from key developers of the God of War, sharing their insights, stories, and behind-the-scenes look at how they created the beloved franchise.
Meanwhile, new art prints from Cook & Becker that focus on key installments from the series will be available for pre-order on March 18. Furthermore, Cook & Becker will offer a 20% discount on God of War merchandise for the whole month. There will be more announcements coming later this year, so fans must stay tuned.
There will also be a 67-inch Jörmungandr Plush available for pre-order on March 19, a 13-disc limited-edition vinyl set featuring music from God of War (2005) to God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla (2023) for pre-order on March 20, and a 20th-anniversary t-shirt collection for pre-order on March 21.
Game Sales
PlayStation Plus members can enjoy playing God of War Ragnarök and God of War (2018), as they are now available on the Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra members. God of War III will also be part of the Classics Catalog for Premium members.
For PC, God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök are on sale until March 20. These are available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
